  • 97 Liberty Webasto and Coach Heat Loop diagram?

    Trying to broaden my knowledge and have found no similar post after quite a bit of searching, a few nuggets gave me clues but not a clear picture.

    I am unclear how the heat loop works on this bus. I have gate valves tagged by Liberty Webasto In and Webasto Out from pipes that run through the firewall with no evident plumbing connection coming from the engine (first and second photos)

    There are also two unmarked ball valves from the output of the Webasto one in line with the other that connect to various pipes forward and under the side of the Webasto (third photo)

    The Webasto is located not on the left hand side but in the curbside engine compartment access (over the chassis batteries).

    I have found no ball valves marked Auto Heat or anything else.

    Finally, there is an unmarked gate valve low and forward in this compartment (last photo). I did some reading after looking at the bus and found no second valve but read that there may be a second gate valve on the LH side of the engine.

    Does anyone have a diagram of this plumbing handy that corresponds to this particular generation? I have a FAX Jon sent to a prior owner in 2005 of a system that in no way corresponds to this bus… the nearest descriptions are in posts Tom made about a similar era Liberty.

    Part of the problem in trying to give coach specific information is different coaches even from the same converter may have been built different.

    My 97 Liberty had the webasto in a different location so all the associated plumbing routing is likely to be different. Mine was a 45 foot and the Webasto was street side behind the tag.

    The only way aside from asking Liberty to provide a diagram would be to follow the piping and hoses. The Webasto circulating pump is a good starting point and just follow the best you can.

    The Webasto can heat the engine, the house heat exchangers and the HW tank so the routing of the heated coolant flow is going to be a little complex because each can be isolated.

    Was hoping Tom might chime in as I think his former ’97 might have been more or less identical given some posts I read, would really like to know what the two ball valves in pic #3 are supposed to isolate and if there are others somewhere else.

    My short answer is “I don’t know”. My coach is similar to yours, Webasto on the curbside above the chassis batts. All my valves stay open 24/7/365. Works great, last a long time 🙂 until it doesn’t 🙁

    The 2 ball valves that are unlabeled on your bus are unlabeled on my bus too.

    The 2 ball valves on your bus that are labeled “Webasto In/Out”, on my bus are labeled “Auto Supply/Return” which I guess is for the dash heater core?
    On the street side is a gate vale and a ball valve which I think comes and goes from the Prevost OTR heater core next to the evaporator.

    Chip, never had a 97 Liberty so I’m lost as well. Jeff would be able to answer your question.

    Slightly off topic…yet has anyone successfully adjusted the various Webasto valves so that when parked and operating, it creates a supply of unlimited hot water similar to how an Aqua Hot unit functions?
