’92 XL40 Drivers thermopane window removal
Has anyone removed the side thermopane windows next to the driver or in the door ? The moulding on the outside of the windows looks like aluminum and is corroding so the paint is peeling. I want to strip and repaint with zink chromate and flat black. Still can not believe Prevost chose aluminum for these mouldings. They are so small compared to all the stainless I do not think weight was a concern. It looks like maybe the screws come from the inside and thread into the outside moulding ? Hope they do not break off,,,,, I hate aluminum and threads.
Anyway if anyone has any experience I would appreciate any direction before I start.

I had the paint peeling problem on my 87 and my 97. The solution was to sand them and repaint the aluminum frame with a satin black on my 87. I left the 97 as is because the frame had the main body color and the black would not look as good so I left it. It was lifting, but no aluminum had yet shown.

Satin black would look better.
I just did not want to hit the adjacent body when sanding so I thought removing them would be better. The issue is these are also the body color and allot of it. I am afraid the paint will pull from around the frames. I thought about scoring the paint all around the edge of the frames with a drywall knife first.
If I can get the frames off I might even have them anodized satin black.

You almost have to use a sawall to free the side windows, they are Silflexed in. Mask the area and sand less work and expense.

Sounds like experience talking,,,,,,, thanks, If I decide to tackle removal I will use extreme care. The frames look like they would be expensive to replace if they got bent or deformed.
