If you can get to the gauge easily, short the sender terminal to ground briefly and see if the gauge moves. (Key on). If so go the the sending unit at the tank and check the ground, then short the send terminal to ground and see if the gauge moves, if so and the ground is good it is the sending unit.

thanks, was checking grounds at start batteries, found one 16 guage wire on negative ground, was somewhat croaded the wire was ready to fall off, replaced end —works now
