It is not algae,algae needs sunlight to grow that is some type fungus alcohol will work but with 200 gals of fuel who would know ratio to use ,there are outfits out there that can clean the fuel using a polishing method (filters and pumps)

What would you call it then? There are gaszillion articles about algae in fuel and treatment. I’ve had it in the past and it’s black and slimmy.

I know there is all types of snake oil for sale out there that call it algae but it is not alage it is a fungus it grows in the dark and alage needs light to grow
.I have had to spray my stocks tanks to kill algae the chemical used just cut the sunlight out and the algae died but you can call what ever people do

Good ole interweb,,,,,, After reading this article I am scared to death of these bacteria / fungus/ BUGS.

Additive products will tell you how much to use. I have no idea where you would find out how much aclohol would be needed. Also, which kind of alcohol would you use….isopropol (like Heat de-icer) is used up here for fuel line freeze ups, but it is not really needed since they dump so much ethenol in everything today. Ethenol attracts moisture so I would stay away from that.
Since you live in FL, is there a fuel polishing outfit that can suck it out, clean it and return it to your tank? I seem to remember from my boating days that that was a big business down there….

From my boating days ….get a fuel polish company to repair the diesel fuel and treat your tank. Why mess around
risking being parked on the side of the road.

Whatever the stuff is called, it is some type of organism. Some additives kill it, but the resultant debris or crud will clog a fuel filter in a hurry.
There has been endless discussion on the best way to deal with it, some advocating polishing fuel as has been expressed above, some suggesting just add the chemicals and be prepared to change a lot of fuel filters, and some have advocated to do little, but drive the coach a lot to flush it out of the system.
I suspect there are a lot of factors which are going to determine the best approach, but I would strongly urge an internet search to learn what you are dealing with, and how to remediate it based on your planned use of the coach and the methods to deal with it in that context.
I had a bit of crud accumulate in the glass bowl of a Racor once and it looked like what I would call algae. I cleaned the bowl, changed filters and as circumstances worked out I was coming into a period of heavy travel so all I did was drive it and change the primary filters once or twice. Never had the issue again.

I have a 91 XL-40 with an 8v92 like yours. If I let my coach set for more than 4-5 mos without starting it, the normal vacuum on the fuel system would bleed off and my coach would have to be reprimed. Mine does not have the racor but there is a check valve on the pickup tube inside the tank which was weak. Replaced it and no more problems with bleed down. Might think about finding out if yours has the check value there or not. Maybe not since yours has the racor but if it is after market, not original when ordered, might be the problem.

Mine has the check valave in the Raycor and the seat was really warped bad.
Had some luck yesterday,,, My inlaw knows the owner of Southeastern Power and he actually went in and got the Raycor repair kit for me.
Installed it today and man what a difference,,, It starts immediately and is smooth as silk. Raycor check valve kit is part # RK11-1404 for a Raycor 1000 series and Raycor 900 series.

Robert……….we usually do not share information about the secret handshake, or how to post pictures but since you are such a great guy we will bend the rules a little regarding the secret to posting pictures.
Start by clicking on the icon above with the tree and sun.
A box will drop down and you should click on the “upload button”
That drops down a box that allows you to select where on the computer you want to select photos from. After you have selected the photo to upload, click on the “open” button on that drop down box. When you do that you will see the selected photo download to the original drop down box.
When the photo has downloaded to the original box click on “ok” and the photo will be entered on the post.
A few tips. You will not be able to download a photo to the post unless the cursor is on the body of the post.
If you want to do multiple photos just hit enter and the cursor will move down to the new location under the last photo. You can add captions or text as needed. The photos will resize automatically so you do not have to do anything other than make sure the photo orientation is correct.
Try it.

It’s too fuzzy and our web guy is going to fix it, but I think you’ll see how to upload photo’ and slide shows.

I did exactly what you described when I tried to post pics on the last thread, but for some reason after the picture uploaded I was unable to post. Might have been a communication error cause it is working now.
