  • 8V92 turbo DDec 2 fuel delivery problem

Posted by Kent on June 29, 2017 at 10:31 am

My ’89 Prevost with 8V92 turbo ddec 2, shutters under load. Exhaust manfold temps are within 10 degrees each at idle and fast idle. Running all gauges are normal. On flat will run top speed, no white or black smoke. Both fuel and the air filters new. Yet slightest grade it downshifts and whole vehicle shutters/viberates slightly and is way down on power.

Has anyone experenced this. WW Williams says they can help, but I had rather find/repair as much as I can before they get into my pocket. Coach is in N Ga. Kent

The only time mine shuddered was when I got a tank full of dirty fuel and the fuel filters were plugging.

A few filter changes in farily quick succession and the problem went away and never returned.

    Kent,

What reaction does the Boost gauge have to the change from flat to grade? If the boost gauge does not move or moves less than in the past, that is an indicator (you do watch the gauges, right?). I’ve had a similar problem intermittantly and every time the boost gauge was not increasing. I’ve encountered the low power issue due to the a fuel filter restricting the flow of fuel. If you have changed both fuel and air filters I’m at a loss to explain where you might find a fix. Two things need to be present for proper combustion to occur. They would be fuel and air in the correct proportions, oh and along with them compression to make the fuel/air mix explode.

When you attempt to find a shop to diagnosis your problem make certain they understand your engine is a 2 cycle NOT a four cycle. Two cycle mechanics that know what they are doing are getting older and difficult to find.

Will, Turbo boost pegs at 15 lbs which is normal. WW Williams is the MTU dealer now for DD 2strokes. They have all the test equipment and so far mechanics . Also can dyno if necessary. Been suggested that a fuel supply line might be collapsing under suction pressure.

Jon, I have had blocked filters. They are cheap…think I’ll change both before going to the dealer just to be safe.

That appears to me to be constent with shuddering. Turbo boost and other issues are smooth losses of power.
