50DN VENT LINE UPGRADE
I was at Prevost Jax recently, and John, the Service Manager noticed that my bus did not have the newer style Vent Hose on top of the Alternator. My chassis is a 2000 Model, and they came out with the upgrade right after mine was built.
The problem is, the small vent hose #4 Braided steel hose can clog up over time, causing the Oil circulation and the level of oil in the alternator to become to high, which they say will cause the life of the Alternator to be shortened by over heating.
When I got home, I ordered the kit from Detroit, and installed it myself.
You may want to check yours to see if it needs this Kit as mine did. (Sorry for pictures turned side ways)

The hardest part was getting the old line off the back of the gear case, and plugging the fitting. You can just plug the old hose and leave attached on the back of the case, but I didn’t want to do that. You have to remove the large Air intake tube that goes from the air cleaner over to the Turbo, to get access to the old line. Once that’s done, everything else is easy, and the kit comes with instructions. The New hose is a #6 Steel Braided line.
