    Jack,

It is not a big deal to replace the seal. An impact wrench will spin off the pulley nut and the pulley will slide off the spline. Then it is just a matter of removing the cap and seal.

But who makes the best? I have no idea on how to find that out. I do know when my 50DN had an issue on the last bus and I shopped pricing I ran across Elreg selling the entire alternator at prices less than it cost to rebuild. I thought because of the price and no core charge that I would be getting a knockoff, but instead I got the real deal, a Delco with the exact same castings and branded parts as my original. So I would not hesitate to buy parts from Elreg as a result.

I called them yesterday and they have a different rubber material that will tolerate heat beter so I ordered one from them,it was less than $17.

I installed the seal today which has the vitton O ring it took about 45 minutes, the alternator does not have to be removed and this is an easy job.The only glitch was I could not find my inch pound torque wrench that I had as a kid for go cart clutches so I had to purchase one,the 6 bolts torque to 55-70 inch pounds.

Good info Jack, I thought it would be harder than that. I’m glad I still have my inch tourque wrench from the Harley days, looks like I’ll need it.
