50 amp service
Way back before Prevost buses I wired a sears 2.5 hp compressor In my garage 220v 20 amp,My main panel was all the way on the far end of the house total 115 feet. We got a 1948 GM Silversides bus that my parents owned when they got their 1980 Liberty, We parked the old bus next to the garage with no power. That was around 1985. So I tapped into the power for compressor,Bad thing Main panel had a 20 amp breaker like a dryer breaker double throw but only 1 leg. I replaced it with a 30 amp 220v and I had ran for compressor Like #10 romex 10-3, So for years both buses Prevost a Foretravel and the Silversides I struggled for power. 1980 We built guest house 75 feet out from end of garage and ran a 100 amp romex cable 115 foot from far end of house to garage and sub panel then 50 amp cable to guest house. So my buddy who is a contractor and his electrician came by and he suggested adding a 50 amp breaker to sub panel for guest house that has 100 amp cable in it,And run from there #6 Romex 30 foot to front of garage and then a junction box to single #6 wire 3 wire and a ground through conduit to 50 amp plug by bus. I just finished yesterday.I turned on breaker checked power at 50 amp plug with meter and plugged bus in and in side my meter from surge protector said L1 125v leg2 124.3v no faults, I started with #1 AC then #2 AC then #3 AC then Aqua Hot electric side that is 12 amps. So now I’m running all 3 AC’s Aqua Hot hot water and leg #1 is still 119v Leg#2 118.3v plenty of power,I was so excited I could never do that before,I could barely run #1 AC and when I did Leg#1 was like 112v not good. When we come back from a Trip in summer when I pull in metal cover I can turn in AC’s and winter I can turn on electric heat, We have 12k of solar we might as well Use it.
