5 Stack Coil Failure
The 5-Stack position #3 “travel” mode 24vdc coil failed on our 95 Prevost/96 Liberty XL “Classic”. It was 6+ yrs and 33k miles ago when I replaced it with new.
I went to take the Bus for a 40 mile cruise to exercise the systems and it would NOT raise/change/lower to travel height in the normal “travel” mode. I could raise and/or lower the bus in “manual” mode.I carry spare 12vdc & 24vdc coils for the 5stack just in case. I know that position #3 is for the “travel” mode air and is 24vdc Norgren # 54452-03. It is powered anytime the key is ON and the leveling system is in “travel” mode. I installed a new #3 coil and “travel” mode came back too life.The other 4 coils on our 5stack are 12vdc, Norgren # 54452-02, and only receive power when leveling the bus in “manual” or “auto” modes.Most Prevost 5stack coils are ALL 24vdc. The Liberty “Classic” is different. -

With Don’s advice and help one of the first things I did to our bus was to rebuild the 5 stack and start replacing all the old norgren valves. I also carry spare parts for the 5 stack. As in Don’s case today, having the spare parts and a few minutes of work got his bus fixed.

I forgot to mention: I knew I had good aux system air pressure because I (not Liberty) installed 2 aux pressure gauges. One in the dash and another in the steer compartment.

Sounds like its a good idea to buy a few of those and keep them in the bus.
