45 ft bus plus 20 ft trailer
Just bought a 20ft cargo car hauler? just wondering how often will I get pulled over for exceeding 65 feet in texas or la. And how much the fine could be????

There have been a lot of posts regarding over length towing. I think the concensus is if you do not draw attention by your driving habits such as frequent lane changing, tail gating, speeding, etc. you are OK.
If you bus does not have anything on it to suggest you are a commercial operation like a race team name on the trailer or business decals it is unlikely anyone will even give you a second glance. Not sure about CA that has been said to have some strong enforcement of the length and speed laws as they relate to an RV.

Did the trailer come with an extended long tongue?

We just made the great loop to Oregon and back this summer towing a Ram 1500, which is pretty long. I don’t measure because I want plausible deniability, but we never even got a second glance.

Back when I was racing I towed a 32′ stacker with a 6′ tongue plus a 1′ hitch , overall length for the coach and trailer was 84′. I was never bothered anywhere except CA. I was pulled over and since it was an organized racing event we were exempt from the 65′ limit. Thank you NASCAR.

Texas is lenient on length with recreational vehicles because we are good guys here in the Lone Star State…
The statute says 65′ limit but I have never seen anyone stopped for length violations with a motor coach… could happen but apparrently unlikely…
We have a 28′ enclosed trailer including extended tongue for the “Vette”. I use the term “Vette” because it makes Jon mad…
Nonetheless, I have never been stopped at 73′ length in Texas, Oklahoma or Louisiana.

You most likely will never have a problem with any state other than maybe CA.
I never have, and have had motorhomes and trailers as long as 92′.
My most recent Bus and trailer was 75′ long, and no issues, as long as no commercial indications such as Decals, or advertisements are anywhere on it, AND, stay out of weigh stations!

We have a 45 xlv and tow a triple axle featherlite box. We are a total of 73′ , regularly travel Florida to Maine to new Mexico/Utah and parts in between. Have never been pulled over or looked at crosseyed even in toll booths or border crossings. Stay in your lane and close to the speed limit. Happy trails.

Both posters have hinted at a main reason bus owners pulling trailers get sideways with the cops.
1) Speeding
2) Logo / lettered trailers advertising a business.

Have towed a tri-axle 32′ w/5′ hitch reg and stacker (83′ total) all over with exception of West coast and have never been bothered. No lettering and under speed limit (but not too slow) with only necessary lane changes. Geo.
