365 tire temporary replacement
Posted by Chuck & Katrina on August 29, 2019 at 1:16 pmI have 365 on steer & tag axles. If I where to have a steer tire fail during a trip and a 365 was not available for a extended period of time, could the tag 365 get moved to the steer and a 315 put on the 365 tag rim to get you down the road to a safe location to wait for a 365?

That is exactly what is supposed to be done. The use of 365 for the tag is so you have the spare.
But Michelin does not approve a 315 on a 10.5″ wheel so when you get a replacement 315 tire make sure it is mounted on a 9″ hub centered wheel.

Thanks for the input Jon. Sorry for the dumb question but, how will a 9 work on a 10.5.
Still trying to understand the concept of the 315 change to the 365. I think I see in the recipes from the previous owner that had the 365 installed that the center hub had to be changed to accommodate the 365s. If I am understanding this correctly….. than a 315 mounted on a rim with a 10.5 center hub would be required.
Again sorry for the dumb question. Just trying to understand in case I would have a 365 failure in a remote area.

The 315 needs mounted on a 9” wheel 22.5 hub pilot. Your drives are likely stud pilot.
Chuck, you’re asking the same question on POG, are you concerned you’re not getting the right answer here?

Drives are also hub piloted. I do not understand the question. A 315 tire should not be mounted on the wheel used for the 365.

I think your confusion is coming from the 9 and 10.5 – these are not hub sizes, they are the width of the wheel.
Both width wheels come in versions that are designed to be mounted on two different types of hubs and lug stud/nut combinations.
One style depends on the hole in the center of the wheel and the outside diameter of the hub to center the wheel, the wheel facing side of the lug nuts on that style is flat.
The other style depends on the tapered lug nuts and conical holes in the wheel where the studs come through to center the wheel.

David:
Your right, i was confusing 9 – 10.5 to hub size. Makes since now that you say rim width.

Tom:
PC is a wealth of information as is POG. Both sites may provide answers that are 100% correct but answered in a different format. As the years progress the mind sometimes accepts one format easier than the other, not that either one is less valuable than the other.
The more question you ask the more you learn
