Has anyone heard that Michellin 315’s XZA2 are being discontinued? If so, what’s replacing them?

Out of curiosity I went to the Michelin web site, tire selector and put in 315/80R22.5 for the first criteria and the only tire models that came were:

    X LINE ENERGY Z COACH

    X MULTIWAY 3D XZE

It seems that the XZA2 Energy was only available in a 295 size or smaller.

I heard it from a tire dealer in NC today, thought maybe he wasn’t correct.

    Yes it is true……..

Just got 4 new tires on Saturday.

    No XZA2 anymore.

Dealer had plenty of new stock / 2018 date code.

    Michelin X-line Energy Z coach tires 315/80R22.5

Used the Prevost Community Michelin Tire Advantage Program.

Paid Michelin , $830.52 per tire……(still have bump on head where I fainted)

Big jump in price over the prior XZA2 prices. Had no choice as steer tires were late 2013 date code

Got tires from St Lucie Tire and Battery in Fort Pierce, Fl

Was treated great, They have the equipment to do the job correctly.

Replaced both steer and tags. Took them about 2.5 hours to do the job.

$240 for dismount/mount/new stems/valves. Running centramatics so not balanced.

PS….With Michelin Advantage program you have to submit your credit card info at least a day in advance to Michelin at 1-888-532-6435. You credit card will be verified and is good for 30 days only.

    William,

FYI Michelin has now upped their warranty to 7 years from install date, so your 2013’s would be good until 2020 provided they are inspected and no weather checks.

Wow, that’s $150-200 more than the old 315 prices!

Who can do the inspection? When should the first inspection be done? How often should they be inspected? Do the tires have to be dismounted to be inspected? Is an inspection report generated?

    Dick,

You can find most answer to your questions in the Michelin RV tire brochure available on line. Below is an exert from the brochure I used when I saw cracking in the tires on our previous coach. The depth of the cracks exceeded the maximum listed below after 7 years on the coach, so I replaced them, and bought tire covers I use when the coach is parked for a while. I made sure I bought the covers to fit this coach!

    AGING, WEATHER CHECKING, AND
    OZONE CRACKING
During the pre-trip inspection, be sure to check the
tires for signs of aging, weather checking, and/or ozone
cracking — these show up as tiny cracks in the rubber
surface on the sidewall of the tire. If the cracks are less
than 1⁄32″ deep, the tire is fine to run. Between 1⁄32″ and
2⁄ 32″,the tire is suspect and should be examined by the
MICHELIN dealer. If the cracks are any deeper than
2⁄ 32″, the tire should be replaced immediately.
