3 days @ Deteoit Allison for trans pro- Batteries?
Good Morning Prevost Community: This is my first post (ever on anything) so please let me know if I’m doing it wrong. I’m also a brand new 96′ Liberty owner. Short of taking the PC maintenance seminars @ Tradewinds, this is all very new to me.
My question is: I’m dropping off the bus today at Detroit Allison for a trans problem – locking in 4th with the trans retarder on. Also has very hard shifts into D N R. Speed-o is also bouncing around after a long drive and the high idle is activated. Here comes the question: What do i need to do to my house electrical system? they said to expect 3 days of service without a electrical service.

Sorry, this is probably not a constructive reply.
I would pick another service provider. How do they know it will take three days? They should be able to do a computer readout while you wait.

Thank you. Its the Detroit Allison located in Miami and they’re super busy. Located close to the port. I’ve got time; this time. So the long hold time is fine for now.
I did drop it off this morning and the techs did connect the computer right away and started pulling the codes. 4 codes popped up. Not sure what they were but it sounded like they had it under control. I’ll post the codes, the fixes and cost when I pick it up.
My main concern are the batteries and what are the settings I should leave on or off…? I did turn on Auto Start in the GenSet but Jon told me that when auto start turns on, your batteries are tooo low and it’s kind of a last resort. So I just turned off all breakers at the inside panel including the frig. I might stop by tomorrow to run the gen set for an hour if it’s not inside the work bay.
Any thoughts..? Or further recommendations?

If you have an adapter for your shore power line you could see if they would be willing to plug it in to a 20 amp outlet just to keep the batteries charged. I would not turn on the auto start for the generator as I would not want it to start while they are working on the bus. If it can’t be plugged in, I would turn off both inverters and my battery disconnect switch; the batteries would not be drained if all of this was shut off.

Joe, The house electrical shut down procedure should be on a red label near the Watchdog in the second bay. I think it is to disconnect the watchdog cable, turn off the inverter switches in the electrical panel in the kitchen and then turn off the house master switches in the electric bay. Your coach may vary so the red label is the correct procedure.

Thank you for the responses. Judging by the traffic of big rigs and metro buses, I’m not feeling confident about the 20 amp plug. I will however stop by on my way to work and go through the shut down as recommended.

Joe: If your house batteries are drawn down during the time you’re away, while an hour will help … that short amount of time will likely help but not bring them back to full charge. More like 2.5 to 3 hours to bring them back for full charge.

If the coach is in the shop and the auto start is activated, you will fill the shop with exhaust as well as make it very hot by the rear of the coach by the bumper to work on, exhaust dump….turn off in second bay inverters and house battery disconnects and gen system off….
