  • 2005 XLII Royale – HWH leveling issue

Posted by Randy on June 25, 2026 at 5:49 pm

found the coach was exhausting air from the drive axle height control valve while the HWH was in the auto leveling position. coach would not level, drivers side stayed low. Tried to manually level, but will not raise the drivers side at all. Coach goes into travel mode with no issues.

Replaced he height control valve and i continue to have the same issue when HWH tries leveling coach. Could this be a bad Norgren valve ?? and if so where would that be located, i see a 5 stack in front under the drivers seat along with the air compressor for HWH.

I recently had the coach in for service at the Prevost center in Winter Garden FL where they had changed the front ride control valve, not sure that would have anything to do with this issue but thought i would throw it out there.

Looking for suggestions an or possible next steps into figuring this out

I called HWH last Friday morning and they tell me tech support will get back to me within 14 days. Not much for customer service on their part. After more trouble shooting it appears i have a bad solenoid valve, i don’t have the means to be under the bus without proper support to identify the bad one and replace it. So i am waiting until my next 2 week stop at my Sons house where i can properly support the bus and get under there to take care of it. I’ll let you know what i find within the next few days.

You will be chasing air leaks for the duration of your Prevost ownership. When you find a leaking push on connector be sure to replace it with a compression fitting. Eventually, as you get more and more of these replaced the frequency will be dramatically reduced. Then you start over again with replacing all the leaking Norgren valves! Good times!

I seem to have recently developed that same issue on my 89 Marathon on my trip to NC as well. When I noticed it, my left rear was leaning too low. I pulled over and it was spitting air every 4 or 5 seconds behind the tires / drive axle. I put the selector in level low on the side and raised it up, but when I went back to normal, the bus leaned back down on that side. So I raised it back up in level low again and managed to drive it the rest of the way to NC with it continuing to expel the air every few seconds. I have yet to be able to get under it to find out exactly where the air is spitting from.

Drive mode is controlled by the ride height valves. When you say spitting every 4 or 5 seconds are you referring to your air dryer exhausting?

Its not the dryer, I can see the dryer, but I don’t know from where yet.

Yes, that is your next step. Block it up and have a look.

I never use my HWH Leveling system on my H3-45. The H3s are notoriously heavy in the front and the HWH Leveling System dumps all the air out of the bags then fills the ones necessary to level the bus. The problem comes when the system is trying to lift the heavy front. It is a slow process lifting the front because of the weight.

I learned from other H3 owners to just use the level low system and only LOWER the positions needed to level instead of allowing the HWH system to dump all the air and refill to level.

When you guys get to the campground and want to level, keep the engine running while you are leveling, the engine compressor replenishes the system quicker. I have a TU-FLO 750 and I can go from zero to 120 PSI in about 2 minutes.

My front is heavy as well. I dump the tag to raise the front up if needed. The canelever effect is a wonderful thing.
