2001 XLII Royale Center AC Issues
I just received a 2001 XLII Royale and can not figure out how to turn on the center A/C when driving. I have a switch on the dash that you press to use the center A/C but it will not come on. Is there a trick to this that I am unaware of. Thank you for your help.

Have you checked the switch panel A/C breaker? ……. It could of tripped

For the AC to work with the dash switch the AC thermostat has to be turned to cool and the temp set lower than the inside temp. The center AC button turns on the unit with AC from the inverters. I

Thank You both, but neither solved the issue. Any other ideas? It works great on shore or generator power, just can’t get it to turn on going down the road.

are the invertors on when unplugged?

Is the center AC tied to the Inverters so that you can run that AC when going down the road. Sounds to me like that AC is not tied to the Inverters. Do the other 2 AC’s run when going down the road?
Most likely only 2 AC’s will run off Inverters depending on how many house batteries you have and how big your inverters are.

Royale used the 2500watt/ 12v Trace inverter versions, and because of the fridge, water pump, microwave, televisions, lighting, etc that are powered from the other inverter, only one rooftop a/c, the galley unit, is powered off the second Trace. I would start checking for 12v supply to the switch, or the contactor in ac relay box near the breaker panel for a malfunction or defect, especially if the inverters are both showing on and operating properly. The dash switch sends 12v to a contactor coil, which powers the #2 a/c directly from Inverter #2’s output rather than the normal 120v breaker in the breaker box. Just what I know of the system. Hopefully I’m thinging about the right conversion lol.

Ben is correct on the wiring, The big issue is the 2500 watt inverter. To make it work you need to put the fan on manual and leave it on while using the inverter for the AC, then the compressor can cycle as it needs to. If the fan and compressor tries to start at the same time it usually faults the inverter due to overload. Few folks have been succesful running the Center Air on the inverter. If you have the Silverleaf system it usually drives that nuts as well.

If your coach is like mine all 3 AC’s have to be in the same “mode” or Zone 1 & Zone 3 have to be off. If one zone is in a different mode it disables the AC function of the roof airs. This is done in order to keep the units from working against each other, i.e. one heating and one cooling. I’ve driven from coast to coast this summer and run my center AC off the inverter the entire time while driving with the fan on auto, no issues.

Thank you all for the advice. After 3 months I finally got it to work. I have to keep the center on low and then it will work. thanks again.
