  • 2001 Prevost XL Vintage

Posted by Jeffrey & Linda on November 30, 2014 at 1:15 pm

    Good Afternoon,

We are homing in on our “likes” and are gravitating towards a 2001 Vintage Prevost XL, Liberty, Marathon and Royale conversion, hopefully single slide or double slide in the price range that we are considering. Looks lime we should feel fortunate to get a single slide!

Obviously, maintneance records will tell much of the story but what would you all reccommend as far as specific things to look out for? Components that we should expect to hve to upgrade in this age time frame? We have located a couple of coaches that fit the bill, interior wise.

Thanks in advance for all the help and all the suggestions!!

All the best to you all,

    Jeff and Lynn

Jeff, I would take a close look at Kingsley’s 02 Liberty/single slide. It’s a nice bus and Liberty did a lot of work on it before they started using it this past May. I think it can be bought very near your price point. It’s worth a call. Geo.

I think maintenance records are important for reasons I have previously stated, but buyers who are not intimate with all it takes to maintain a coach should visit the Prevost Car publications page and get copies of what Prevost shows as maintenance for the model year coach being considered.

Then if a buyer does have a coach being considered with maintenance records compare what has been done to the Prevost list.

Far too many times I have seen coaches listed as being “maintained by Prevost”, but while that may seem to imply everything is being done that needs to be done, far too often it does not go beyond superficial routine maintenance. I know if a coach is brought in for its “annual” oil change and lube, there is no assurance Prevost is tracking and doing such vital work as coolant changes, transmission service, or maybe even air system checks and service unless the owner is very specific as to what he is expecting.

So if you do have access to a coach’s service history, it may have a lot of documentation, but compare the work performed to the suggested maintenance schedule. Then you have to go beyond even what Prevost lists and need to include other things to look for such as replacement of belts, hoses, air bags, brake chambers, valves, etc.
