  • 2000 Vantare keyless entry not working

Posted by John on September 6, 2016 at 7:54 pm

My mother-in-law is having a problem with her 2000 Vantare keyless entry not working.

The coach is at TGO in Titusville. Long story short, as I have been told is that one of the engine batteries

exploded the last time the coach was started. The batteries were replaced with gel batteries and the coach started

right up. The door was locked with the keypad as usual. Today, the door would not open with her user code.

Of course, all the keys are in the coach. Should the keypad have “remembered the code”? Donnie Myers was

contacted and could not find a code to use based on the last four digits of the VIN 7060. A locksmith has been

scheduled for tomorrow to try and get entry or drill out the lock. This seems like a bad idea to me. Hoping for

alternatives. An old post mentioned removing the windshield for a similar problem. Is this a better option?

Prevost can get her the code that was installed by them, but if the module has been changed or damaged, the locksmith may be the best bet. They may be able to pick the lock rather than drilling it out. Removing the windshield is always an option, but it could end up costing more if it breaks during removal or installation.

The code doesn’t erase when power is lost. If the proper code does not work, it is likely the module was damaged somehow. I has issues with my first coach. Found out there was some corrosion on the wiring plug. Cleaned it up and it was fine again.

    Mark,

Thanks for the response. When the two keys are pressed to lock the coach, I was told that you can here

the latching sound. Could the keypad still be defective?

Could the battery problem and or replacement have damaged the keypad?

Take the windshield out, it’s a 15 minute job assuming it’s an XL and the glass shouldn’t break. We used to do them at Rally’s. As I mentioned to Terri with my e-mail, have you checked the side windows driver & passenger to see if one is unfastened and can slide? Even a broken windshield would probably be cheaper than a drilled out lock.

Thanks Tom, I will have them check in the morning.

One of our problems, is we are in Mass and the coach is in Fla

The door key looks like a Ford key, could we get a key from Prevost by the vin #?

Fully agree with Tom, regardless of model. Just have a glass installer remove it, reach in and open the door and he can replace the glass. If it is an XL or a 4 window H3 he will be done in 1/2 hour.

Take the windshield out as drilling the lock is bad idea on a XL, those locks are not available for several years….I have sent locks out to locksmiths to have them matched and not had good success. I would rather drill out the handle and replace it than the lock

The vin # for the coach is 2PCW334931027060

This means it is a 2001 not a 2000? My mistake.

Does this change the windshield as the best option?

Thanks to all who responded with advice for our keypad problem. This forum and community is really a lifesaver

for owners and want to be owners of all levels of experience.

I just got word from TGO that the locksmith was able to get the door open. We now have access to the keys,

and are able to lock and unlock the door with the key. Thanks again to all that replied.

Great… And yes there’s a big difference in a XLII windshield and an XL, not as daily handled due to size.

    Use a Hide a Key…

Thanks Tom for your reply and advice and all you and Jon do for the PC Community and members.

I’ve posted so many times today, I am afraid Jon’s gonna double my dues.
