2000 Royale 17.5 Power Tech not producing power
My 17.5 Power Tech generator runs great but has stopped producing power. I changed the regulator but still no power. I read about connecting a 12 volt power supply to the F+ wire and grounding the F- wire and giving this a try but have not tried it yet. Any suggestions? Also do the inverters play a role in creating power or should there be power directly from the two 120 volt wires coming directly out of the Generator when it starts up? Any assistance or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks. Greg

The inverter has no direct relation to power from the generator output.
Read the voltage at the generator wiring to the breaker on generator control panel.
If no voltage then go to troubleshooting on PT site.

Where did you get the regulator from? Thwre are knockoff that are not worth using HDIK.

Flew the regulator in from Basler Electric. Same make and model as original. 63-4. Paid extra to keep it original instead of using a cheaper priced one. Would adjusting the little dial on the back make any difference you think? Greg.
All I get is 2.5 volts registering on my meter from both lines. Generator has 2100 hours on it. Surely it can’t be finished its life at such low hours?

By the way the coach is an H3-45 if that makes a difference. Thanks.

Some generic generator tips.
To verify that your stator and field windings are OK, disconnect wires at terminal block and measure resistance (should be very low for main windings, about 60+- Ohms for field). Check for short to ground. There should be none.
If your generator has brushes and your field resistance is high, clean commutator and re-seat brushes. If all that pans out, your issue is upstream (regulator, breakers, wiring etc).
There should be plenty of residual magnetism to bootstrap the field unless the generator has not been used in a very long time. If you reflash the field, put a 10 amp fuse in your supply line.

Thanks for the advice. The Generator has not been used all summer and very little before that. Would that be long enough to loose the magnetism. Can reflashing do any harm inside?

You may have to wait till Monday but give Powertech a call to troubleshoot and they will point you in the right direction

Thanks Roy and Bobbie. Does anyone have Power Tech trouble shooting phone number and the best person to talk to there? I will call them on Monday and see if we can figure this out. Leaving today with the coach and I feel like I am half neutered. This is my first time posting to Prevost Forum. Lots of good information available to someone new like me..

I use Ernie at Powertech 1-574-202-0470. Not always the easiest to warm up to but very knowledgeable. Have tools and diagnostic stuff out and ready.

I recently had this issue . At the control box you need to check for 120v on both legs . If you do not have 120v then you assume the Regulator . If you have a new VR then sadley your stater could be shot and you would need a new Genny head. I hope this is not your issue because you looking at a 5k repair . Good Luck .
