20 KW Kohler – Voltage
Anyone know if the voltage is adjustable on the 20 KW Kohler? Mine when loaded up with 30 – 40 amps on each leg will get down in the 112 volt range and when unloaded, around 116/117.
I had a Powertech and the voltage regulator was adjustable, but can’t find any info on this one.

Don’t take this to the bank but there are some causes and some adjustments I think.
The generator should have voltage adjustment potentiometers and the manual should show how to adjust them. I think engine speed has to be correct also, but I believe that controls frequency more than voltage.
Do you have the Kohler manuals? Are they on line?

I am not by the bus right now, but I had to play with the engine speed to get the freq. right on mine. It was at about 62 hz. and it screwed up all the clocks. I got it back to almost 60, but it is finicky. I can look through my books when I get home, but I don’t recall a way to change the voltage.
I wonder if that is in the ADC control that is password locked? Tom..how about a call to Liberty?

I have the manual, but no joy on any adjustment instruction or information. Not sure if it’s turning at the correct rpm’s, but it does not flucuate when I load it up and stay’s steady.

This is the Kohler service manual 20 KVA as used on a 1997 LIBERTY.
If I can not upload it I will send it to Tom and he will.

Engine speed only affects frequency.

I had to replace the voltage regulator on mine due to erratic performance causing gen shutdown; I don’t recall any adjustment provided. If you still need info, I can go to the coach tomorrow for the manual. Are you sure you have a problem? What are the normal voltage ranges?

Seems like it should be 120 like the others that I have had. I have the owners manual, but not the service manual. Don’t go to any trouble for the manual, not sure I could do anything with it without special tools. 112 volts is too low in my opinion.

If my brain and post-its don’t fail me I will bring a copy of a pertinent part of the Kohler manual that might help to Oysterfest.
