  • 1S4P What does this mean?

Posted by Art on March 18, 2025 at 10:14 am

On the LiTime app I have the batteries set up as 1S4P I get S means Series and P is Parallel 4 is how many batteries there in Parallel and 1 is how many in Series, Is the Series part internal, I goggled it still does not make since?? I’m wired 4-12v batteries wired in Parallel still 12v with Bus Bars?? This is what it Says!

In the context of a Litime 280 amp-hour battery, “1S4P” refers to the battery’s cell configuration, meaning it has 1 cell in series and 4 cells in parallel.

    Here’s a breakdown:

    • “S” stands for “series”: This indicates how the cells are connected to increase the voltage.
    • “P” stands for “parallel”: This indicates how the cells are connected to increase the capacity (amp-hours).
    • “1S”: Means there is only one cell connected in series.
    • “4P”: Means there are four cells connected in parallel.

In essence, this configuration means that the battery is built from four 280 Ah cells connected in parallel to increase the capacity, and then these four cells

are connected in series to maintain a specific voltage

I think you answered your own question.

1S4P would be exactly how you would describe your 4 batteries connected to the bus bar. You could just say 4P but my guess is the app wants some number in the S spot.

My Li are Relion, and although their literature said series and parallel connections were acceptable it turns out they were not and the problem was the BMS was unable to provide adequate charging to the set because of that so I now have all 24V in parallel with 24 to 12 volt converters.

Does that mean the Batteries are Series internal ?

Yes, the batteries are series internally. Typical Lithium cells are 3.2 to 3.4 volts, so to get a 12V battery, 4 of them are wired in series.

Back to my original Question! So what is 1S4P stand for?? Does battery have S internal Series?
