That is a nice looking Coach , I love the color. As a member here You have most likely learned what to look for in the condition of the coach. Their listing on their website does not give a description of the updates that have been done on it that I could see. But from the pics, It has one of the old Heart inverters and one newer Xantrex controls in the electrical panel. And it might have the original Amanda Refridgerator. If it is original , It might be getting near the end of its life cycle. Maintenance records and history will tell you a lot, if they have them. If You have not printed it out yet, Search ” Zero ” It is An article that Jon , Tom and Jeff wrote on what needs to be done on older Coaches. Good Luck and safe travels.

Outstanding color scheme for a coach of that era. I think the paint on the rubber around the wheels is an upgrade.

I’ll be frank. The open commode is a deal killer for me and us. If that was the only minus on a coach we were looking at, I would factor in a remodel to create a private commode room.

If the open commode works for you, then here are my pluses, minuses, and things to consider (especially with a coach of that vintage):

Pluses:

Paint scheme, paint on the rubber around the tires, coach still has the altimeter and outside thermomenter (do they both still work?), looks like its had a wood floor upgrade in the salon (carpet is gone) and possibly the tile has been replaced (is the tile heated? does it work?), apparently still has the tool box, its a Liberty.

Minuses:

Black front seats and black dash, open commode,

Things to worry about/check on/confirm:

Does it really have OTR/bus air? Almost ALL Libertys have it … but there are two or three, maybe four without it.

Do all the outside lights work (some that don’t might be corroded so much that the fixtures needed to be replaced)? If you’re towing a car or trailer does it have a trailer brake already installed (current technology?)? Is the refrigerator the original Amana from Liberty? If it is, I would have Olympia replace it … it exceeded its operational expected life a few years ago. How “cold” does the OTR A/C run on a warm to hot day? Take a digital meat thermometer with you.

Have the TVs been replaced with flat screens? Does the dash radio pull in distant FM and AM clearly? Is it easy to find stations? Pre-set staions? Find stations easily on XM radio? Play with the navigation system. Do you like it? Our coach had an upgrade to the nav system in about 2007 or 2008, and I just LOATHE the POS. To replace it is not a cheap date.

How many Cruise-Airs does it have? Three? Is that going to be enough where you intend to use the coach. If you’re going to use it 12 months of the year in the south, make sure you have enough cooling capacity.

The generator doesn’t look like its in a box … or maybe the box doesn’t have a door. Fire up the generator, put a good load on it, lie on the bed and see if you can live with whatever noise your getting.

Fire up all the Cruise-Airs. Run them hard both in heat and cooling modes. Check the temps in both heat and cooling modes. Make sure the heat pumps are working as they should.

When you open the bays, do the bay doors stay open for five minutes? Or do they slowly drop. If any drop (especially on a cool day) the tension cylinder things need to be replace.

Then of course there is maintenance, maintenance, maintenance, maintenance. Don’t be afraid to reach out to someone knowledgeable about Libertys to discuss the maintenance records that are available to you.

Tires and batteries will run you very close to $10,000.

A basic zero out at Jeff’s on our coach cost $20,000 … and I’ve spent money on it since.

Drive it on the Interstate at speed for 20 or 30 minutes. Does it drive straight and true? Or do you have to chase the coach with the steering wheel? If you have to chase it, the coach probably needs a three axle alignment at Prevost (JAX did ours). The price of the alignment was $675 or something like that … but new tie rods and shocks resulted in a $2,000 bill. After the three axle alignment it drove like a different coach (Thank you Peter Campbell! RIP).

I haven’t been in the market for almost three years. That said, in my opinion, given the age, mileage, 45′ Liberty Classic Lady (with a handful of upgrades), open commode, and the price … I would expect you’re getting very comprehensive and complete maintenance records showing that all the fluids, belts, hoses, tires, and batteries are one year old or less and all the bags are newer, there aren’t any air leaks, TVs all upgraded to flat screen, etc.

I don’t want to scare you, this is a very nice looking coach. I know nothing about Olympia or have an opinion either way. I want to provide you with as much information as possible based on my experience of buying a two year newer Liberty three years ago.
