  • 12V Dimmer Module Bypass

Posted by Brent on January 15, 2021 at 4:29 pm

Hey I am brand new to the forum and Prevost ownership. I have a 2002 XL 45. I am trying to upgrade my interior lights from the G4 to LED. Most of them are on dimmers. I bought dimmable LED but my dimmer switches don’t fully cut the power so my led lights flicker (also the reason the G4 bulbs are burning out.) I have found the entire dimmer panel box under the bus. Ideally I would like to simply bypass the dimmers and make the switches work as off on switches. Is there a way to bypass the dimmer module?

Thanks for any insight you might have.

From your description it seems the dimmer module is also the on/off switch. The LEDs probably do not draw enough current for the switch to work reliably. One option would be to leave at least one G4 lamp in the circuit.

Thanks I will give that a try. I don’t think the dimmer turns it off because even the G4 bulbs would maintain a small glow if you took the light cover off and took at look at them. It seems like the dimmer drops the power but doesnt turn it all the way off.
