100 Hours – Really??
Power Tech 17.5 kW generator (06 Country Coach installation)
I was surprised to read in the CC Owner’s Manual and verified in the Power Tech manual that the generator’s Kubota engine requires oil and filter changes at 100 hours.
The smaller Kubota engine (12.5 kW Onan) in our previous coach had a 250 hour requirement while our first coach, 8.5kW, was 150 hours.
An oil change on the 17.5 is very easy to do myself and I’m not complaining about the cost.
It just seems a bit of an overkill. I’m at 60 hours since the last oil change and the oil is still a clear amber.
I’ll abide by the requirement but may do a little research on the Kubota website. And yes, I know how expensive a gen-set is, while oil is cheap.

Ditto.
My equipment with Yanmar or Kubota engines call for 250 hour oil changes, but my generator asks for 100. I try to do that, but sometimes I run over and don’t even worry about it because like Les I think it might be a little overkill.
I just changed the oil and I went 102 hours since the previous change. So far the generator runs OK, but I probably took 1000 hours off its life by going over 2 hours.

If the 2 liter Kubota was powering a car going 70 MPH for 100 hours, it would be the equivalent of driving 7,000 miles.
So, maybe I don’t feel so bad changing oil and filter at 100 hours or even 102 hours…
Like Jon, I’m not going to get wrapped around the axle if I actually go over by a bit.

The Kubota BX series tractor has a 23 hp 3 cylinder 55 cu. in. (900 cc) motor. Factory recommendation is 200 hours.

Dan, thanks. From looking at the Kubota website, it appears that most all of the Kubota tractors have a 200 hour oil/filter change requirement.

I had my Yanmar oil analyzed at a 100 hr change. After the results, I now go 200-300 hrs…I do use full synthetc oil.

Isuzu is another manufacturer of diesel engines for compact tractors (20-23hp 3 cylinder engines). They recommend initial at 50 hours, then 200 -250 hour intervals
