The time of day can make a big difference, but LBJ can be bad anytime. Where would you exit 635 ?

Google is mapping me this way
I-20 W. Take US-175 W, Texas 183 TEXpress, Texas 121 TEXpress and US-287 N to US-81 N in Montague County.

Where are you traveling to? The Google route gets you headed north on 81 and 287 but the route is congested driving all the way across the metroplex. You might consider heading north before Dallas on 69 to 380 west in Greenville to McKinney ,west on 121 then north on 35w and back on 380 west at Denton to 287 north at Decatur. 380 will take you all the way to Decatur from Greenville, but McKinney to Denton is heavily congested and there are 28 stop lights on that section.
