Gearbox Oil Change – Overfill question
I have a quick question to those that change your own gearbox oil. I decided to do it myself this time on my 96 XL with DD Series 60. It is the Superior gearbox referenced here (https://www.prevostcommunity.com/forum/threaddetails.asp?Category=General%20Discussions&ThreadID=781) from a post years ago. I have the two hex ports (drain and fill) but I could not get either of them out, so I decided to do the suction from the breather hole method. Now to my question.
When refilling, without the fill hole, I am estimating how much with a rod inserted. Right now, after filling, I am about 3/4 inch over my estimate of the correct amount (recognizing that it is hard to tell exactly). Is having too much oil a big enough problem that I should lower it some? I know too much could cause some over heating, but not sure how sensitive it is, particularly since I am not able to use the true fill hole method for accuracy.
PS – Prevost service did the last change and I am not sure if they actually used the plugs, but I doubt it given that they do not look like they have been removed in a long time. I suspect they did something like I did.
Appreciate any advice or experience you can share.
Thanks!
