Another OTR Air Question???
On a
coach equipped with Prevost installed OTR (whole bus air) air
conditioning, will there be another smaller and separate compressor
for the “dash” (or drivers) air conditioning or does it use the
same large one for dash air conditioning? -

Uses the same compressor and you can select dash, coach or both. The dash controls are different on the later models, Jon will pick this up I’m sure.

Tim, my 96 dash air uses the same large Prevost/Carrier OTR compressor as the rest of the bus. It has a separate dash circuit(freon on/off solenoid, evaporator, expansion valve, fan, etc) that Ts off the main circuit.
I had to replace the dash circuit expansion valve when we bought our bus.

On mine the compressor will not be activated unless the entire coach and dash are selected,and if I turn off the dash it also turns off the coach.So my answer is you cannot just run the dash,the system will not allow that.

What Jack said is correct. When I run the dash only it is because I just want a little heat or some air flow. I cannot get A/C unless the entire system is on.

I was incorrect, I forgot my 01 Liberty would not run the dash air unless the coach air was operating.

Mine too is like Tom said, dash won’t blow cold unless the main cabin air is on.

Huh. Didn’t know that. Will have to play with mine.
If the OP is worried about fuel consumption with the big compressor running to just cool those up front, the big Carrier compressor has six cylinders and based on A/C load and demand will engage two, four, or all six cylinders. I thought that was pretty slick when Jeff Rowe explained it to me.

Both definitely have to be on for the system to work properly.
