Need Cruisair Info
I have been in contact with a large marine air conditioning and custom cooler, ice maker manufacture that is in competition with Dometic. They are very interested in designing and manufacturing a replacement unit for our current Cruisair units. I am donating one of my spare Cruisair units to them for R&D.
I have a meeting with the company’s owner next week and need to make a strong case as to the future money that could be made to encourage their involvement.
What years were Cruisair’s installed in the various Prevost coachs (starting years to ending years). How many of those years involved 4 Cruisair’s in a coach verses 2 Cruisair’s in a coach. How many converters used Cruisair during the hay days?
In short I am looking to approach them with; Cruisair units were installed in XYZ builders coaches from _ _ _ _ to _ _ _ _ . There were approx X amount of of units installed overall during that time frame, which X amount are still out on the road and struggling to stay operational. Not only is there a market for a new direct replacement but parts and service throughout the USA too, which the company already has in place for their marine units.
I need to make a good presentation for myself and all of us. Please provide your input to help me make this happen.

Call the converters that are still in Business. Call the independent service providers. They’ll give you some good info.

I have three. one has had new compressors twice one 2007 at marathon and one i did 2 years ago. i like what i have seen on the forum recently and think the larger condenser coil has to be the right path. and an option on the compressors is a must. i would like to keep the a/c the way it is to preserve my interior. i like the control of the units. but i live in the wrong climate for them. they just are not real good in my summer travels. i hope you can put something on track for all of us. thanks for what your doing.

Spoke with Featherlite, they said Cruisair units were installed mid 1990s to 2009. Only roof airs after that.
I know Tradewinds bought some of AAP’s inventory, just found out Featherlite bought the rest. Once that stuff is gone, ain’t nothing no where.
Fingers crossed I can move this forward.

FWIW;all the cruise air I have been around are not capable of handling the pressures of todays refrigerants. So replacing with more efficient inverter type system requires complete replacing all original lines condensers and evaporators. the pressures on say 410 are astronomical compared to 22 or 134. New system like mini split inverter can be easily adapted to foot print. Allot smaller space requirement.Also about half of power requirement. Gree has made a rv roof top on this principle. Not available in us. Just some observations..

Country Coach used 3 Cruisair units. Not sure when they started but my ’88 had Cruisairs. I think they stopped using Cruisairs and went to roof top around 1995.

My 92 did not have cruise airs. It has 2 units that basically tie into the dash air. They only work when the engine is running and are made by Frigi Cool.

What do you do for A/C when the coach is parked? My 88 and my current 98 also have a 2nd A/C compressor running off the engine that provide A/C to the Galley and/or bedroom. It was removed from the 88 but still working on the 98.

When traveling in the heat, i run the generator with the front or mid Rooftop AC running. When parked boondocking, i run the rooftops, same when plugged into Shore. All 3 are brand new installed last year.

Just trying to clarify as you post seems to indicate that you only have A/C when the engine is running. I assume you mean you also have 3 roof A/C units.

I think the general range of Cruiseairs is late 80’s into the late 2000’s depending on Converter. My last Cruiseair coach was a 2002 Marathon H and Jon’s current 2006 Liberty has Cruiseairs.
Since you come from the Marine world you know how popular they are in boats, mine worked great in my Chris Craft being water cooled. Likely many thousands units out there.
