  • Could your cruise air be updated?

    Just currious: would it be possible to just use the Mini split condensor unit and your present evaporators ? The condensor units are available seperate. You would gain heat capabilities also with just a little control engineering..If any one is intrested I will look into it. The big question will be if your evaporators can take the increased pressure. If not could be we could just change the evaporator coils out also. and keep same duct work. Just a thought. Bob.

    This equipment the min splits are engineered and quite a bit different then your original cruise air units. For one the mini splits uses the referagerant lines as the expansion device. If you are going to make a change from r22 to r410 then you must flush the referagerant lines with the proper flush kit as the oils are not compatable and will take out the compressor over a couple of years. If you want to use the existing air handlers for heat and the condenser matches you would need to add the appropriate metering device ( expansion valve) that is rated for the proper size and refrigerant. To replace the coils you would need to know the size tubing, area and fins per inch and make a match accordingly. To small and system will go off on high pressure in heat, to large and the cooling pressure and temperatures will not be correct. The control systems in the mini split world also work much different. On a better note some of the mini split manufactures today are making small air handlers to match the condensers which may be a better alternative based on your particular needs. Hope this helps.

    I also share your questions: I’m using the units (mini-split as they come from factory) In doing so I observed so much in common with the other system with a few extra features. I have modified them for other uses and am presently working on making a roof top application design mod for the condensor side. My son’s Toter Home roof tops are so poor performing and power hungry it is sad. Just observing size of evaporators and condensor coils I have the big Question. Why not. I guess the main factor of using the evaporator would be pressure increase and welding vs solder as I don’t know how the cruse air were mfg and could take the higher pressure. Lots of guys going to face failing systems soon. I put my condensor in the spare tire compartment. Just thinking out loud here. Were the cruseair ever ser rated?? Bob
