cruise air quit
My starboard cruise air compressor fails to come on, all fans work and no faults show. Talked to Scott at Liberty and he thinks it is probably the compressor itself or some other component inside the unit, whatever ,he said he TV entertainment center has to come out to get to the unit, it would have been easier if it had been one of the front units.
Anyone have any better ideas before I start to dismatle things?

If it is like mine it is the top unit behind the entertainment center. If the compressor is not coming on it could be as simple as low R-22. In fact if that’s what it is that is the best news you can get.
The reason I say that is if it has lost its charge it is highly likely the leak is at the valve(s) which usually can be seen by the accumulation of oil around the leak.
If the charge is OK it could be a start or run capacitor. Otherwise……….
A transmission jack or something along those lines will aid in moving the entertainment center out of the way.

I have removed the entertainment system a couple of times and it really is not all that bad,just make sure you label all the wires.I can use a floor jack and as it comes out and rotate it to the left and then it is out of the way.

Thanks Jon and Jack, I guess ther is no way to tell what is the problem except to get in to the compressor etc.

I finally got the TV etc out today, much easier than expected and as you said, Jon ,the AC is the one on top. Now if my AC man can get here tomorrow maybe we can solve the problem.

We have determined it is the thermal overload for the compressor, where might I get one?

WW, Grainger is a good place to start. Or any refrigeration supply house. I would want to verify it was bad as opposed to there being another problem.

Also try AAP,the cruise air distributor.

Liberty tells me it means the compressor is bad and that caused the overload to burn up, the wires were pretty burnt also. My AC man wants to try to find the overload and try that before we spend $500 plus on a new compressor. Any thoughts on what to do.

I would put a compressor and new dryer in,it is very simple.

Does anyone recommend a newer more efficient compressor? Something like a Sanyo rotory?

The space for the compressor is limited,the Tecumseh compressor that is used in the cruise air is AKA 8515 EXA and that is a 15,000 BTU compressor,it would be difficult to fit in the space a compressor that is equal in performance.

Jack, if you could absorb a 2000btu performance hit >> what are your thoughts about the RKC 5515EXA rotary?
I have a dead compressor and I can pick these up wholesale for under $200

I would not comprise my comfort for 2-3 hundred dollars,ask John what he thinks.I want the best performance at any reasonable price.

Jack, I downloaded the spec sheets..
This rotary is rated at 15,500Btu 500 extra Btu’s vs the AKA8515
Running amps appear to be inline with each other. The rotary should start easier and run quieter.
