Reverse Polarity
My wife turned on our gen while we were plugged in to shore power. Now my reverse polarity indicators are on. We’re on the road of course Any help?

Wikipedia> “Reverse Polarity” is a term that describes an electrical condition where the “Hot” wire is connected to the terminal on the receptacle intended for the “Neutral” wire and the “Neutral” wire is connected to the terminal on the receptacle intended for the “Hot” wire. The wires are, in effect “Reversed”.
Most likely the wires are crossed in the shore power plug-in receptacle. I would check that first.

As stated then you need to verify if it is wired wrong or if there is a component failure. Was the coach plugged in when you purchased it? Have you been plugged in anywhere other than where you are now? A 50amp plug should have green to the round pin on the plug, both flat blades side by side should have the red/black with 120v and the bottom flat is to white the neutral wire.

Unless you know for certain the previous owner did not mess with the wiring, I would not only verify the wiring Jeff shows at the plug, I would follow the wiring up to the transfer switch if you find the plug is properly wired.
Reverse polarity is dangerous. If in doubt get an electrician who understands RVs.

Steve: How many 30/50amp receptacles have you plugged into? Where are you plugged into? After reading what Jeff posted, I’d be checking the receptacle to ensure that is wired right.

Don’t know if this goes to all or not. Have checked my 30 amp plugs and they are correct. Also checked the cord and it seems to be right.Have not had the opportunity to plug it in elsewhere. Read somewhere online there might be a bad ground wire. 3 flat screen TV’s, all work fine. Full size side by side fridge, works find. But plugged into 30A plug I get that message. Stumped.

Only plugged it into the 2 30 amp receptacles I have. Verified the wiring, and my Bounder Motor home has been plugged in there forever with no problems. Thank you much for replying. Since it works perfectly on 20 amp and generator, I am at a loss.

Was not plugged in. Was running on generator. Have tested my plugs and the cords, and everything checks out OK.. When I put a tester in the outlets, it says a ground is missing. Have searched and can’t find it. GFIs all check out. Everything works. Mystified…..

Unfortunately, at the moment I only have 30 amp plugs. Probably should try to plug in elsewhere, but have double checked my plugs and had 2 electricians check. Wondering if there might be a problem in the inverter.

Sometimes if you plug into a 50 amp or other socket and you have an air conditioner switch on, for example, you may hear a warning against reverse polarity. If so, generally, the breaker at the plug will pop.

Is that in the connection in the bay where cord goes in? Just boggles me that it works fine on 20 amp and generator…..but thank you so much for answering…..
