Douglas Dillard

Hello, my name is Douglass Dillard.  I am a Prevost owner and have been a member of Prevost Community since 2017.  Some of you Prevost owners may know me, others may not, but this is my Prevost story I’d like to share with you.  I became a Prevost owner in 1990.  Hard to believe that was 32 years ago!  My ex-husband and I enjoyed traveling extensively in that 1990 bus for 8 years.  I drove her almost 8 months a year across the US and Canada. We loved being in it more than at home.  As we were one of the founders of a motorcycle club called the “Bus N Bikers,” we were fortunate to have met some great Prevost owners.  You HAD to own a “bus” to be a member of this club, and most of the members were Prevost owners.  While traveling to “Bus-N-Biker” rallies, I compiled a list of “wants” such as electric awnings, misters on the radiator, built-in outdoor kitchen, office work station, etc., that I would like to have in a new coach if we ever purchased another one.  In 1998 we did just that. We purchased a Prevost 40’ XL off the Country Coach assembly line and negotiated 80 changes I needed in my new coach. 

I personally sanded the exterior and designed the paint job.  My dream of owning a Prevost coach just the way I wanted it finally came true.
 
In 1999, my husband and I decided to part ways and began to fight over the bus in the divorce.  For 4 years we stole it back and forth from each other.  Other Prevost owners would help us hide it from each other around the country.  It was like the War of The Roses and lots of folks talked about us back then.  I won that war and she’s still mine! 🙂 She was awarded to me in the final divorce.The pipes on the bus froze while in service during the winter of 2001 and I swore my bus would never live in the north during the winter again.  I found a wonderful place in Florida through great friends and fellow “Bus N Bikers” who lived there.  I started renting an RV pad in this magical place in Central Florida near Disney off of I-4.  No more snow and freezing temperatures for us!  In 2006 I designed a house around my Prevost so we could live together happily and be snowbirds.  Afterall I had fought so hard for her and she is more than an RV to me.  In 2013 I decided to live full time in the house I had designed for us. After we were involved in an accident in 2011, Creative Coach in Lakeland Florida, refurbished the living room and bedroom. This past summer, the bus had a plumbing leak and they replaced the flooring in the kitchen and bathroom and installed a new shower. They did a great job and she is more beautiful today than she was in 1998.



Now I in live in my Florida home with my lovely Prevost and we are trying to age gracefully together.  I must admit she’s doing a better job at it than I am. I applaud all of you Prevost owners out there for having superb taste in choosing this brand of motorhome.  I made that choice 32 years ago and have not regretted it for one second.I hope I haven’t bored you with my story, and I invite you to have a look at my 24-year-old bus with only 235,000 miles.  It should be 535,000 – if only I could have traveled more often!!!  Take a look at this magical place where I live and work selling real estate, Mt. Olive Shores North.  Your Prevost can live right beside you in its own special RV port, RV garage or in my case, in my living space.  You can own an existing property you find here and like or you can design and build one on a vacant lot, as I did. There are plenty of other Prevost owners who live here in the winter and have found it to be as magical as I do and absolutely love it!!  Maybe you will be one of my neighbors someday.
