Maine adventure
Becky and I have been wanting to get back to Maine e re since our last trip 15 years ago. We about noon headed north out of the heat.
First stop was the new Love’s between the homestead and Columbia, SC. $2.159 Less the $0.10 discount meant that diesel was only $0.09 more than regular unleaded. And the interstate location was $0.30 cheaper (after discount) than I could buy it locally. Some of our local chains have put a squeeze on the big boys by building new stations with one to three truck bays with those nice big diameter nozzles. But they could not play with the big boys thus trip.
Stopped for the night at the Ft Chiswell RV park less that a 1/2 miles off I-81 just 2 miles south of the I-77/I-81 interchange. Not a bad overnight. Concrete pad but barely long enough for a 40 footer, full 50 amp hook ups plus wifi and cable which we didn’t use. $35.00. I’ll add it to the map.
I see if I can keep this post up for the trip. Maybe Becky will still be talking to me after 20 nights in this tin tent.

Good timing Joe.. We’re heading to Maine for a few days after the Quebec Rally, so I’m interested in your comments. I have a friend with a fiberglass coach that just did Maine and back from Florida and he said the roads beat him to death.

My mother-in-law has five 50 amp hook ups and two dump stations available next door to my house in Walpole MA.
She has a 45 ft Prevost so there is plenty of room to manuver. One of her friends coaches is staying with her now.
If you need a place to stop over on the way up or back from Maine, let us know. We will be in Maine over Labor day in Wells at a rally if you are interested in joining us too. Offer good for any and all PC members.

A warning Tom, we picked some small places on or close to the coast. One as small as 6 sites I think. We will see how those work out. We do like smaller places and Becky likes the water view. I will try and give a road report as well.
Thanks for the offer John, our current plan has us southwest of Boston before the final push to Maine and the coast. Exactly where we end up is dependent on traffic as we finally get to major metro areas. Planning I-81/I-84 to avoid most of that.
Man, I hate typing on this I-pad that first post looks awful.

Stopped at the Jonestown, Pa KOA for the night. Used to be Lickdale RV park, I think but now a KOA brand. Less than 1/2 mile off exit 90 I-81. A little on my high end for an overnight at almost $50 but…..
I was favorably impressed with the over all condition of I-81 so far. Good asphalt in Va, some asphalt over concrete thud thud in West Virginia and some concrete path thud thud in Maryland but this are short runs. The dirt 90 miles in Pa also in good shape but a little more contraction. Will see how this trend continues in up the NorthEast corridor

We pushed thru to just west of Boston and stopped at a Walmart overnight, further than planned but will make for a short day today.There was a long construction zone on I-81 between Jonestown and The I-80 interchange. Bus tended to porpoise some such that Becky did ask me to slow down. I-84 in good shape in Pa, and most of NY, except oddly enough after the tool booth which was the roughest section.
I-84 good in Conn. With some construction in Hartford that slowed traffic. Bridge apron work I-290 around Worchester. All typical construction zone rough. Nor thing out of the ordinary. I still don’t feel beat to death. Will see what the future brings.

Elsie and I are planning a trip to the Maritimes starting September 18. Looks like your place might be close to our route. Anyone here done the Cabot Trail on Cape Breton?

Sounds like a great trip. When do you think you’ll be in Mass? Would love to meet you. We are Walpole, MA, if it works for your travels. We are about 30 to 35 miles off I-90 if you are coming up I-84 thru CT.
We are traveling to York, PA for the Vogue/Vantare Country Club National Rally. We should be home until September 26th then at the rally until October 4th.

As you travel in the NE, please update the PC map for campgrounds that are easy in and out wihout getting all tangled up in tree’s.

We spent two days in the Wild Duck Adult RV Park. Read “Adult” as no kids, not nuddist (we were curious about this name until we got there!). Located about a 1 mile south of US-1 and just off of ME-9 in Scarborough,Me. It is convientently located for the Two Lights State Park and the Portland HeadLight.
Wild Duck will not be the place for a lot of folks, the campsites are sandy gravel and we tracked a fair amount inside even with a door mat. The drives in the park are paved but narrow with small sites. It is completely in the woods but the trees are cut back. I had no issues with a 40 footer but the curves are tight.
I did have to weave down the road between ME-9 and the campground to avoid low hanging branches. It’s a deadend road so no traffic to effect the weave.
Most of the sites were season long renters, very quite and right on the marsh.
Full 50 amp power, sewer, water and cable (no satelite access due to the trees).
But hey, the view is worth the trip.

We did the Cabot Trail about 7 years ago. 5 years ago we did Newfoundland. We’ve also done all of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Last service on the bus was in June in Quebec.
We loved the Cabot Trail. The scenery is outstanding. We stayed in Baddeck, which is a nice little town on the bay. We left the coach parked and drove the trail in the car, which allowed us to pull over and enjoy the trail.
