Well guys you asked for a spot in the northeast without trees and I found you one.

Main Stay Cabins and RV Park in Winter Harbor, Maine is a new 3 year old, very small 9 site park. Full 50 amp, water and sewer. No trees to contend with. Just across Frenchmans Bay from the hustle and bustle of Trenton and Acadia National Park. welcome to the quite side. The Schoodic penisula is a part of the park without the traffic.

Main Stay is right next door to the ferry dock at the top of Henry’s Cove. Ferry service is available if you want to boat over to Bar Harbor for the day. It is about an hour boat ride with stops for bald eagle sightings, ect. Or you can drive over also about an hour.

All site are compacted gravel, no pull thrus. The site layout is:

#1 Back-in with the water view curb side, would be a tight turn for a 45 or maybe even a 40 footer, not recommended

#2 is also back-in curb side to the water, a bit narrow but workable

#3 is pull in and faces the water, good site for 40 or 45 footer

#4/5 are back to back with #4 a back-in and a bit narrow, #5 is a pull in facing the water and a good site.

#6/7 are also back to back with #6 back-in and #7 pull-in facing the water, either site is ok 7 would be preferred

#8 is a back in and has the most space, we liked it well enough we were scheduled to stay here 3 days and stayed 5.

#9 is a long term site directly behind #8 no one was in in while we were here.

Winter Harbor is on the Schoodic Pennisula and can be accessed from US-1, ME-186 is loop connecting, US-1 to Prospect Harbor, Birch Harbor and Winter Harbor. DO NOT access Winter Harbor from the south connection with US-1, there are low trees over the road way. ME-195 (Pond Road) is the preferred access route which cuts down the middle of the pennisula. Once you get to Prospect Harbor turn south on ME-186 to Winter Harbor. There are a couple of tight curves on ME-186 leaving Prospect Harbor just go slow.

If you travel by toad to Bar Harbor / Acadia, turn off US-1 just south of Hancock on Mud Creek Road, turn right on ME-204 and follow ME-204 to ME-3. This cuts off the traffic in Ellsworth.

We completed the Maine adventure Yesterday. I have a couple more places to add to the Map.

Tom, I drove US-1 from the Lebec turnoff to Bath either in the Toad or Bus. In places it has a nice 6-8 ft wide paved shoulder which is very nice. In other places the asphalt is crumbling chunks out of the white line. I also drove many of the ME highways out the peninsulas along the coast. I’d say the roads are in decent shape. Yes there are some frost heave lines in places but I did not feel like I was being beat to death.

Fuel in the downeast part of Maine was cheaper than the souther portion. I fueled up outside Bangor to avoid the high tax states between Maine and Virginia.

Dick and Jean, did you do the Cabot Trail in one day or spread it out over several? If several where did you stay when you were traveling with the toad?

We stayed at the Baddeck Cabot Trail Campground and took the toad around the trail. Did it in one day.
