Not starting
Gen was not starting very well mine has brain on side of gen it would flash code had to go out side and reset it there are two plugs with wires going into them that plug into ECU took wires out of plugs put spade connectors on them it works great now those plugs go bad inside u can not see it though works good now the code would flash low oil pressure but that was not true it was not reading it right my gen is power tech 17.5

Hi Peter, I have the same gen set.
When mine was starting rough I noticed a very small amount of fuel around the
injectors. I replaced the o-rings, one of which was really “thinned
out” and all was well. I’d check the battery connections too while you’re
at it. These power techs are bullet proof, recently I ran mine for 5 days straight
without and problems.

Thanks Fred mine was the plugs that went into ECU when we did that now starts on first go no more cranking twice power tech said its the plugs and to put spade terminal on them plug each wire onto spade terminal on ECU board

I’m glad you figured it out and she’s up and running. What’s a “spade terminal”? I’m not familiar with that.

the ECU has male ends on it flat the ones I put on wires are the female they push together they have to the ones with the cover over them to keep them from touching one another

Did you replace existing spades or did you replace what was on it with spades?

The male spades are on ECU we took off plug that wires went into and put insulated female spades on and pluged them into ecu if it still does not work right it’s the ECU board

Red I had the same problem a few months ago. I had to replace the fuel pump which is no biggie. You can buy a replacement at any Nampa Auto Parts store.

Thanks Sid, I wasnt sure because when things are running well one tends to not pay attention to what causes what noise. I thought that clicking was the fuel pump but wasnt sure. Off to Napa we go.

Certain generators, one a 20KW Kohler of an older vintage had an issue with fuel pumps. After a while it wasn’t delivering the necessary volume to handle the loads. I was shocked at the cost of the replacment which was around $360 and it had to come from a Kohler dealer.
My current vintage 20KW Kohler has a different fuel pump and if I am not mistaken it is available at NAPA.
I carried a spare of the first one, and once I did that of course it never quit again.

Thanks Jon ,appreciate the input. maybe i will put the old pump in the new box and try to fool the generator gods. Naw that probably wont work. Im just not lucky like that.

Assume you have more than a 1/4 tank of fuel, correct? And all fluids topped off..

Yes I got plenty of fueln and all fluids are full also but thanks for the reminder anyway. Say hi to the boss for us
