All,
This is my first post to this site. We have owned a 03 Country Coach Intrique and an 04 Foretravel U320. We sold the Foretravel in 2010 and have been without a coach/motorhome since that time. We are considering buying either a Prevost, Newell Coach, or Foretravel. We have been inside a Royale, Country Coach, and Marathon, but have not driven or rode in a any of these. We like the XLII, slides, wood cabinets, tile/granite floors, and the transmission retarder. I thought the transmission retarder was an excellent feature on the Foretravel. I look forward on increasing my knowledge base about Prevost’s by joining this board. I apologize in advance for asking any stupid questions in the future.

Whenever you hesitate to ask a question, just remember every single one of us on this site was a newbie and no matter how long we have owned our coaches we still have a lot to learn. Thankfully this site has the expertise to answer your questions, and on certain occasions our members actually give the correct answer.

I guess great minds must think alike. I could not be included in that “great minds” category. I just finished reading that thread and came back to this one. Saw your reply and I appreciate the link. I found that thread by doing a search. That is a nice search feature on this board.
Has there been any updates on the delamination issue.

I like the part about our members having great minds. That’s a little confusing as we normally enjoy helping new members spend money..lot’s of your money.
Have you seen anything for sale on PC coaches for sale ? Do you want slides ? 40 ft or 45 ft ? XL, XLII or H ?

Thanks for your welcome to the Prevost World and Prevost Community. We like the XLII, 45 foot,2 slides, private commode, would like 2 couches, transmission retarder, tile/granite floors, prefer wood cabinets, andking or king junior bed. I guess that is a start. I have not looked at the Prevosts listed for sale on the Prevost Community website. The information about delamination involving the XLII’s is a concern.

I just read your questions about delam and the CAC that you posted on POG Inc.
If a coach you are considering has not had the rivet skin repair the simple answer is to have Prevost inspect it and if it has a problem determine if they will stand behind the cost. It is likely they will do the skin repair at their expense, but you will lilely have to pay for needed paint work. The cost of paint work then becomes a negotiable item between you and the seller. If Prevost does not find the need for repairs the coach is likely not going to need any.
As to the charge air cooler that is a very easy item to inspect. Start the coach and at idle squirt soapy water along the joint between the finned tubes and the top or bottom headers. If it blows a lot of bubbles it needs to be replaced. Another item to be negotiated if you find the CAC to be bad. If it needs to be replaced insist on the Dura-lite CAC.
I hope you don’t find all of this burdensome. The reality is if you approach the purchase of a coach armed with information you will not be blindsided with expensive unanticipated surprises.
From my perspective, which may differ from what others think, as a coach approaches 10 years of age I have zeroed out the items that are going to start to need repair or replacement. If I don’t have service records I include zeroing out all fluids, belts, filters, etc. so I have a starting point for the routine maintenance. That’s a lot of fluids because I include the engine oil, coolant, transmission fluid, differential oil, generator oil, etc.
Then I replace all air bags, Norgren valves, brake chambers, shocks, etc. I make sure my tires are all within 6 years of age and batteries within 5 years of age.
I do my own work and it takes a lot of time to get it all done, but when I am done I won’t be surprized or chasing problems for a long time and I have peace of mind. I would guess except for tires and batteries zeroing out all the stuff I described is $20,000 to $25,000 if you pay someone to do it, but compared to the cost of a 10 year old coach it is a cheap invenstment in peace of mind. My point is to start out with a coach as perfect as possible and as they say on the Mastercard commercials that is priceless.

Welcome! Once you do buy a Prevost, you’ll find this site so invaluable. We also went from a Country Coach (Intrigue) to a Prevost — Marathon to be specific. We just recently went full time in our bus, and we’re really happy with it. As opposed to any other motor home, high end or otherwise, the WINDOWS in Prevosts provide such an amazingly open feel to the bus.

if a transmission retarder is a must on your list then Newell is off since that is not available on them. I had an XLII and went through the dlamination process it did take time and Jon’s advice is spot on. Everything is a compromise and the search is part of the fun. Great group here they will help you spend your money for sure but the more you ask the more you will learn from everyone’s experience.

I know you have a Newell on order. My friend just bought a new to him 2013, against my grain but that’s why they make different coaches. He was going down the road into the sun and put down his shade and called me, I said what’s the matter and he said I can’t see my f%^$#g mirrors. I guess with the roof line mounted mirrors hanging down you have to look up to see them. Is he doing something wrong or is that the way it’s setup? I give him credit for telling me.

That is absolutuly terrific your coming to OKC. I’am sure you’ll have a good time as all of the PC croud is party ready.
We should have a large Marathon turn out at OKC.
