1993 Marathon Fridge upgrade
So I need to change the front passenger side window after it received a rock last week so I guess this would be a good time to replace the 24 year old fridge but I am having a tough time finding one to fit the opening. My current fridge is 33″ width x 66 5/8″ height x 30″ depth with handles it’s the depth that is against me. Has anyone else had to replace a similar sized fridge? My max depth is 27″ without doors and 31″ total with doors and handles. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks Jeff

Our jennair quit cooling last summer. The dimensions were the same as yours so I assume that’s what you have. We ran into the same issue with finding a unit that would fit nicely into the opening. We finally became frustrated and changed the condenser fan and it cools great now. Ours looked like new and our windshields are good. I’m pretty sure Lowes has units that will work nicely. However was reminded how stupid their website is when I tried searching again after reading your post. If you go in a Lowes store I bet they can help. There are definitely counter depth refrigerators that will fit. Good luck. Jeff

Thanks Jeff and Tom I may have to modify the opening at the top and sides but the depth looks good on that fridge Tom, thanks for the feed back. The fridge still works but it runs all the time not very efficient so with my luck I change the window and a month later the fridge piles up so kill two birds with one stone.

Kenmore 51789 is the same one I used to replace our Amana. You should be looking for “counter depth”. They’re out there, but tough to find. Are you close to ETLC? If so, have it drop shipped to Jeff and have him put it in. They are very, very efficient at both the window and reefer swaps (read save $$$$).

Thanks Dick I would love to let Jeff at ETLC but it’s a 2400 mile drive for me one way. So a few buddies and some beer and we will change it out in my shop -
When I had to replace the Amana in a previous coach I learned how to quickly sort through the various sites and read the dimensions which was the first criteria.
If you are bringing it out and the new one in the safest way is to remove everything in its path plus space for people to walk. I pulled the table and chairs, the sofa, the passenger seat and then used shipping blankets to cover the dash under the window, as well as the floor. I stripped the new and old refrigerators of everything I could remove to minimize weight and avoid parts from falling off.
There is no substitute for a fork lift or hoist and 4 people are the minimum.

Thanks Jon for the good advice I will post pictures of the progress. Now I need to track down a Kenmore 51789 hopefully I can find one in Canada or I will have to head down to Sears in Great Falls MT. -
If you can get your opening (width) to 35.5″ this Whirpool is a great counter depth fridge and these folks have free shipping . I put one in replacing an Amana in a 2000 Newell

. Look around and do a search on counter depth like others have said. There are a lot of them available. I found a Samsung with a 5 star energy rating that has an energy saving mode. With 2 doors and 2 drawers. Perfect for the bus. One thing that I should have done. Is saved the formica color match panels that were in the old Amana. Could have used them for a custom cabinet or shelf to replace the old built in coffee maker.
