My secret information source, known only to a select few dues paying PC guys, shot this picture from a Priare Dog hill off the interstate with the latest mac daddy telephoto black opps infrared camera. This information was highly classified and unobtainable to the general public, so you’ll see it here only at PC.

We took a trip from Coburg to Newport, OR. Spend some time using the bus and trying out all the systems. One was the OTR bus air. OMG it’s quite and very cold.
We did use the generator on our trip and noticed excessive smoke. Then while roasting some hot dogs the BBQ shut down. Factory installed BBQ must have generator running to support the electric Jenn-Air. First thing that came to mind was the long exhaust hot enough to burn out.while short time runs…. Thus some smoke for awhile, but this is to much.
We have two issues but unrelated but requires a return to camp Marathon. We also have a fogged up bedroom window which now will be replaced here rather then sometime while in Dallas.

Smoking generator seems “normal” to us. Both our Kohler genset equipped Marathons (2000 H, & 2002 XLII) belched smoke. Must be a Kohler thing, built in “skeeter fogger!”

Why does the gen have to be running to use the grill? Mine works fine on shore power, it’s a Jenn-Air/Whirlpool. .

I don’t believe a warmed up and loaded modern diesel powered generator blows much noticable smoke unless it needs servicing.

I was under the impression we had be be on shore power for the hot dog grill to work. Dave Bash took a look at it and after gen started grill came to life.
On the repair list ……. if the grill crapped out I could’nt think of a better place for it to happen.

Now you’ve gone and done it, hot dogs in a Marathon, the Liberty boy’s will be yakking about filets now.

Just turn off the generator, put some diesel fuel in a pot and ignite it. Cook the hot dogs.
The smoke will make you feel like the generator is running, and there are no fuses to trip so the hot dogs will get cooked.
Problem solved.

Al, we have noticed a lot of smoke on the Kohlar gensets with Yanmar engines. I cannot remember who told me, but I believe it is due to excessive crankcase pressure. Check the plumbing on the crankcase breather.

Hmm, good tip Steve, mine also smokes more than others I have had and it’s a Kohlar/Yanmar.
