  • Who do you use for insurance?

Posted by rafael on April 28, 2020 at 6:52 pm

Just wondering who you guys and gals use for insurance coverage and how much your premium is if you don’t mind sharing? I’m in the market to switch carriers and was hoping to find some options.

I have Progressive through Miller insurance with agreed value for 1,4690 per year. They also offer “Winter Layup from September to April. That can take just over $5000 off that price.

We are in our 7th yr of owning our Prevost, and insuring it with the Miller Agency, with National General Ins. Co. with a $135k Agreed Value, RV full coverage, $2500 collision and other than collision deductibles. Me and the wife are both listed as drivers. No claims, no tickets, 800+ credit scores. We paid cash for the bus. We have never been asked to have any sort of appraisal or inspection. This yr, Jan 2020 thru Dec 2020, $1525.

Safeco and Progressive are the only other ins companies that will quote us an Agree Value policy. They were 70-75% more expensive.

We have owned 5 MHs before this Prevost. They all had a NADA and or Kelly blue book value, and I bought them below wholesale value, so we went with State Farm actual cash value policies on them.

    Good Luck

We are in a similiar situation as Don, thought we had a pretty good rate – similar to his at $1400 something with Progressive.

Our first RV of any type, so had no idea what to expect. Also paid cash for bus, and both have 800+ credit scores, no claims, no tickets etc.

Ours is not an agreed value policy however. Would have preferred that but cost jumped greatly. I’m going to look into Miller Agency. I’d much prefer agreed vs ACV but wasn’t willing to fork over alot more $$. Somewhere around same coverage amount Don has $125-150K would be great.

Also have a Fountain boat with Progressive same deal ACV so may move both.

We are also with the Miller Agency, but with Foremost Insurance. Pretty much mirrors what Don wrote, but our agreed value is at $140k, No claims, no tickets, 800+ score, paid cash, but our rate is a bit higher at $1,763.

I know it is a badge of honor to never pay more than required for anything, including insurance.

But unless I am completely missing something after reading multiple policies, after studying the differences between ACV and agreed value, and speaking to insurance experts regarding insurance I get very concerned about exactly what kind of coverage folks are getting for some of the prices being quoted here.

I have spoken with every company (or its agents) that have been mentioned above.

I’ll provide some free advice to those with cheap premiums. Find out exactly what value you insurance company is considering your coach to be worth. It will take very little damage in dollars relative to a coach’s real market value for an insurance company to write a check for what they consider ACV. You exchange your coach which they just “totaled” for a check of much smaller value than the market value of the coach.

Scrape the entire side of a coach against a big tree, involve the replacement of bay doors, some paint and a little of structural work and see how $50,000 to $75,000 of damage can get you a check for ACV. Then figure out how you are going to fight the insurance company that is happy to charge such low premiums.

Jon – probably good advice. There are a few “Miller Agency” insurance providers that come up on a search. I’m assuming the one Don referred to is in Oswego, OR. Please correct me if not.

Looked at policies, boat with Progressive IS agreed value. Coach is not.

Oswego is the one. I think they advertise on the PC Forum.

If you have an ACV policy, and not agreed value be concerned. Very concerned. I mean really, really concerned.

A 2005 coach for the premium stated above means the insurance company is insuring an ACV that isn’t close to what the coach is really worth, and you need to do waterboarding to get the insurance company to tell you what that value is.

But if you have a scrape or dent you not only are going to arm wrestle with the insurance company for some reasonable coverage, it is a safe bet if the damage estimate is involving some big numbers you just sold your coach, or you refused the insurance company settlement check.

Nobody on the forum has ever posted how badly they have been screwed over, or the amount of negotiations involved to get a check even close to their expectations. They are embarrassed. But their premiums were cheap.

Well got my quote, agreed value at 180k for $2,060 a year not bad at all. Going to pull the trigger.
