Need your help on my 50 amp hookup.
Hi guys,
My 50 amp plugin on my bus is in the water bay on a metal plate (right side of the bay) as shown on the picture below. The power cord comes through the floor and must immediately be bent towards the plate. The problem is the plate has come loose on the bottom, making hookup a challenge to say the least. Since the plate is not secure at the bottom I have to put my hand behind the plate to keep it from moving away from me. Without gloves it’s a good way to tare your hands to pieces, something I’ve done more than once. Do you have any ideas of how I could secure the plate in place preventing it from moving?
I’ve got to figure something out before the plate breaks off from the top and then I’m really in a pickle. Thanks for any thoughts you have…

Would have been better if you moved that raggedy looking hose out of the way for the picture Harry ole boy. You can make L brackets to stiffen it up. Oops, at your age I shouldn’t have said stiffen.

Hi Tom, I didn’t think of L brackets but I’d need them in both corners right? Because I have to keep the bracket from coming forward or going backwards. And I don’t know how I’d get behind the plate, especially on the right hand side? Maybe a spot weld? Here again, putting something on the front is relatively easy because the plate goes down to the floor. Again, the problem is getting something behind it. it’s a poor spot to locate a plug-in but that’s what I have to work with.

Hi Don, I have a feeling that may be the answer. Probably an expensive answer, but the answer non the less. Thanks for your feedback. If anyone else has an idea I’d like to hear it?

Harry, Why would you take it anywhere besides ETLC? If i live 70 miles from there they would probably have to get a restraining order to keep me away.

Harry, How about a temporary fix by adding a 50amp adapter (pigtail) for an easier hook up.

The pigtail was actually the first thing I tried. The problem is there is little room to navigate with something as ridged as a pigtail. I was also unable to close the cabinet door and without it 80% closed I can’t close the bay door. It may be possible if I take the cabinet door off, I’ll have to check it and see.

Most of the receptacles are made by Hubbell, they sell to other companies which are brand labeled. Maybe you can use the existing receptacle as the junction and install an external fitting.
