Wood Flooring
I have several interior projects that I am undertaking now that I have the coach here at the house including those mentioned in other topics such as removing the Splendide 2000. The latest desire of my best half is to remove the carpet and install hardwood flooring.
I have no issue with removing the passenger and driver seats, or the two couches. Tammie would like to take up the tile in the kitchen but I like it so that will stay.
I will appreciate advice on this project including best advice for installation, brand and/or type of flooring, trim for the steps transition into the driver and living area.

I’m not an expert, but would not use real hardwood. Our coach’s floors get far more abuse than any home’s floors.
We come right in from outside, and unless we remove our shoes on the steps whatever is stuck to our shoes, dirt, small stones, or grease from the truckstop ends up getting tracked in.
Then because our coaches are narrow we walk the same path, front to rear over and over. I like wood. But those tiny specks of stones over time contribute to wearing our the wood’s finish. Once the surface is compromised the grease or diesel fuel from the truck stop enters the wood and only sanding and refinishing restores the appearance.
We have a heavy vinyl that looks like wood and it seems bullet proof for our coach.

Thanks, Jon. What is that heavy vinyl that you mention? Do you recall the brand/name, etc.? What is the installation method?
Tammie and I leave our shoes at the top of the steps. We encourage our son’s and granddaughter to also take off their shoes at the door. Only time that I recall we do not do that is at fuel up and when I am going back forth with inside and outside maintenance.

Do yourself a favor and look at porcelain. A few years ago it would of been a deal breaker for me putting it in the bus.
90% of all new buses are using it. Ours looks like wood plank and you cannot hurt it and it’s 1/3 the weight of marble.
People come in our coach and say nice floor often and when we tell them it’s porcelain they are in shock.

I don’t know the brand name, but a flooring store is going to have plenty of options. I really like what Bernie suggested.

I second the use of porcelain hardwood floor over actual hardwood. I have it in our new coach. Unbelievably easy to maintain and does not show dust etc. In our last coach we tore out the tile floors and had hardwood installed. Hated it! Showed the smallest amount of dust and drove me crazy trying to keep clean. Had ice maker malfunction leaving small amount of water on floor which ruined section of hardwood. Ripped it out and replaced with same porcelain hardwood I have in new coach.
Would never consider real hardwood again in coach or home.

We use engineered wood in all the floors. Dimensionally stable. I cut tight against the walls and cabinets. Adhered with urethane adhesive. Doesn’t move, repairable. Looks elegant.

The going style these days is less carpet. Cleaning is easier. We have hickory floors from stem to stern and some oriental rugs.
I have been doing from front to rear with the planks. I always start with factory edge to factory edge at the stairnose by the entry.
There are many ways to update the flooring.
We try and make all options available.

Ron, I can tell you the the LVT (luxury vinyl tile) flooring installed in our salon & bedroom is by Amtico, and we really like it. Ours is laid diagonally.
