Anyone traveling to Mexico?
After years of using our bus for business we’ve always looked forward to taking her down to Mexico after we retire…Judging by what I see on the news I’m not so sure we can travel safely in Mexico anymore. Am I being too paranoid?

Given the entire world situation I am not sure travel outside the US is going to be as safe as it is here.
Call me paranoid also.

We go to Rocky Point a time or two per year (going again early May). It is only 50 miles into Mexico though. We travel during the day and in a group. Have never had a problem but know people who have had problems travelling at night.

We lived 14 years in Tuscon. For most of those years, the State Department has had a travel advisory warning for Americans traveling to Mexico.
I believe there is merit in their advisory.

I have clients born and raised in Mexico and they advise against it.

Look up and read the website “Borderland Beat” You’ll never go near the border. Friend of mine used to go down and fish and found the website. He’s never going again as he said he would like to keep his head.

David, as someone who traveles regularly out of the country as a pilot for a family, they refuse to go to Mexico and have had friends who have encountered some really dangerous moments. If you use an IPhone or IPad download the app Smart Traveler from the Department of State and it will spell out some of the things that can happen in all of the different parts of the country. Hope this helps.

Not enough money in the world to get me down there these days…. the USA has more to offer than I have years left to enjoy !!
No plans on leaving here !!

the last time I checked, the DOD still has restrictions on travel to Mexico. You have to get special approval. As noted, you should check on the state department advisories and base your plans accordingly. Pam and I would love to travel down to Costa Rica with the bus but, that plan will most likely never happen.

I would not go into Mexico for any reason.
I would also check with your insurance company if you insist on going.

Go to WalMart for the cultural experience, and Taco Bell for the food.
Both in the U.S, and you can take your bus.

Ive been in a couple Walmart’s that are as dangerous as Tijuana is 🙂
Of course I also spent 5 days running part of the baja 1000 course between Ensenada and San Felipe and back and didnt get shot at by any cartel members. but that was about 10 years ago and I had my foot into it as much as possible and wasn’t about ready to stop for anything that wasn’t lunch/dinner or a cold beer 🙂 I wouldn’t bring the coach down there though…

We hunted doves for years in the San Fernando valley south and didn’t think much about it until a group of thugs showed up in the fields one day and held everyone hostage at gun point, stealing watches, money, and whatever valuables they could find. Luckily i missed that trip but from my friend’s accounts, it scared the life out of them that ended that practice and we never returned!!
If they found a dozen American’s hunting doves in an obscure field with mexican guides, just think the attention the bus will bring, much less if you break down and / or need to find any kind of service or if any medical attention is needed…
I wouldn’t take my bus across the border for any reason !!! Matter of fact, i am leary of traveling on I-10 close to the border…. Life is too short

I-8 west in Arizona into California is more of concern, it is closer and longer in miles than I-10 in Texas near Mexican border.
