I have a 2000 XL2 with the awning type windows. I repaired two of them. One of them had the problem in the small 90 degree gearbox and the other was the vertical shaft you can see where the window linkage attaches. When you have shore power the transformer feeds a low voltage signal to the auto start control board. If the shore power drops out the auto start control board will sense that and start the generator. My Wanderlodge had that feature.
