I found a water leak that looked like it was coming from under the bottom unit. Looked like a bit** to get it out so I just bypassed that one. Leak still there so took out all the decorative panels and still couldn’t find the leak. Finally chased it to a loose elbow fitting on the back side of the water filter that was near the heaters. Slowly dripped down the back side of the exit pipe and down to the floor where it leaked back under the lower heater. Difficult to fix but I finally did get to it to fix that issue. While doing so I found evidence of loose wires and galvanic damage in and around these old water heaters. Likely time to replace both units if/when I can get up the gumption to do so. Not likely any time soon as the one still working provides plenty of hot water for the two of us. New elements are cheap and readily available if you find one burned out.
