Updates for 03 Liberty at East Tenn Luxury Coach
Just dropped the bus off with Jeff for annual maintenance and some interior upgrades. We are super excited to see the finished product. Jeff will be pulling up all the carpet and installing wood floor that matches the molding that Liberty used. The sofa is getting recovered, the recliner is getting replaced and a new Smart TV installed in the salon. Here are some before photos and hopefully Jeff will post some pics as the work is being done.

Well I finally got a couple of pictures from Jeff. The sofa is out and has been recovered, underlayment is down and the new floor is about to go down. I don’t know why he can’t send me more pictures, it’s not like he’s busy or anything. Haha (Yes that was a joke)

What is the general concense. Carpeting or a hard floor? In looking for a used unit (tenderly cared for) is it better to replace the carpet with new carpet or with a hardwood floor. In addition what about two couches vs one couch and two comfortable recliners. If the coach has two couches can you easily remove one of them and replace with two lounge chairs? Thanks

I think the general consensus is wood floor. You don’t often see carpet in any of the converters new buses except for occasionally in the bedroom. Still it’s a matter of choice. If carpet is what you want, then go with carpet. It is definately a cheaper option than going with the wood floors and will feel good under your feet. It’s just more troublesome to keep clean, especially in our coaches when we are often parked in places where it is hard not to track stuff in.
As far as the 2 sofa versus 1 sofa and chairs, I don’t know if there is a consensus or not but I do know that if you take it to the right person you can get pretty much any change made and have it look like it rolled out of the factory that way.
Jeff’s place in Tennessee where I took ours has an excellent reputation for being able to do top quality work that is at the same level as the original converter.

Just a comment about LR seating, from experience.
We have had a sofa and two chairs, a sofa and a lounge chair, and two sofas. Here’s our opinion based on how we use our coach.
The most comfortable was the sofa with two chairs. Both of us liked the chairs for comfort, and with a nice sized cabinet between the chairs with room inside to store books or magazines, plus a lamp on top for a reading light it made that arrangement nice for reading, viewing TV or for two visitors who would sit on the sofa. It was not as practical for the use of a laptop computer as it was set up..
The lounge chair with a sofa that is common on a lot of current model coaches is the least practical, but makes the use of a laptop very convenient. The set up we have uses the cabinet to house the laptop which is in a shallow drawer, always handy and easy to use. The chair is very comfortable for viewing TV or reading because of the lamp on the cabinet. The sofa, not as comfortable. If there are two visitors, usually someone ends up sitting in the dining booth because three on the sofa tends to be a little crowded. Viewing TV from a sofa means someone has to sit somewhat sideways unless the TV is directly across from the sofa.
With two sofas you again give up ease of use of a laptop, and the seating for viewing the TV or reading is not as comfortable for anyone as two chairs would be. Two sofas are nice when you have two guests visiting which is better than a sofa and a single chair.
In a perfect world we would have a sofa, two chairs and a cabinet in between that somehow had a slide out drawer or tray making one chair convenient for use of a laptop.
Anyone want to talk about dining tables vs booths? We’ve had all them also.

We recently had Jeff take out all our carpeting and tile, replacing it with luxury vinyl planking (looks like real wood). Going from about 50% carpet and 50% tile to all hard surface has turned out to be a very significant and wonderful change. If you’ve ever pulled out old carpet, you know how much nasty stuff gets trapped in and below the carpet.
Jeff’s shop does excellent work. We have had a lot of folks come through the coach and rave about the new flooring. Be aware that it is not just the flooring but how the trim work is done that makes or breaks the installation.

Let’s hear it about booths, table & chairs, J dinettes, card tables, etc…. We have had booths, table and chairs and now the J dinette. So far, we prefer the J dinette.

Not an expert on floor plans or layouts, but our preferences are shaped by how we use the coach.
Our clear preference is a 4 person dinette with bench seating for two on opposite sides of the table. Easy to get into and out of, a full size table surface, convenient if we have another couple, and additional storage beneath each bench.
The table and two chairs worked for us but the chairs for another couple had to be pulled from a closet, we lacked the storage we get beneath the dinette seating, and perhaps the worst feature was the chairs were flying objects. We held them in place from normal sliding with velcro straps, but in an accident they had the potential to do damage or worse.
We now have a J booth. We prefer it to a table and chairs, but not as much as the 4 person dinette. It works well for three people, not so good for 4. The table top size is smaller than either a table and chairs or a dinette booth. Unlike the dinette or table and chairs, anyone seated anywhere in the J booth can participate in the conversation that might be taking place with others in the living room without having to turn around, and no matter where we sit in it we can still see the TV where in the other 2 half of the people had their backs to the TV or conversation.
So now our preferences are a LR with a 2 chair one sofa configuration and a 4 person booth for the dinette,
