TSD Cards and PIN numbers.

The reason this thread was started is out of concern for security for our cards from TSD.
If you have a card and it does not require a PIN to start the pump nothing could be easier, but if anyone should get hold of your card, and understand how and where it can be used you are at risk of having to pay for someone else’s fuel.
Joy from TSD and I have a resolution that works to add a layer of security for those that wish to have it. I picked a 4 digit number that is entered into the TSD system as a “control number”. When I swipe my card the screen will ask for a control number, I enter it and can begin the fueling process. No number, no fuel meaning if I accidently drop my card or leave it at the pump, unless the finder knows my control number the card is f no value and my checking account is safe.
I used it yesterday for the first time and it worked great and if my calculations are correct my net savings per gallon are going to be about $.57

The first time I used my card the pump requested a control number. I entered the PIN I had setup when I first got the card. The next Love’s never asked for a control number and simply started pumping.
This is my concern. If you can pump without a PIN/Control Number what kind of protection do I have if my wallet is stolen or I do something stupid like drop the card?

Do your credit cards have a PIN ?? What happens with those when you wallet get stolen?

Bill, TSD will enter a control number of your choosing and once they do that the pump will not start without you entering it.

Les, your credit cards limit your exposure. The limit of your exposure with the TSD card is the amount of money in the checking account.

Plus my CC company offers fraud protection should someone else use my card.

Adding a required control number to the TSD card is 100% protection as long as you never tell anyone else that number.
The ultimate protection is to not have a discount card, but my savings the other day on 133 gallons was $66 so I’ll now accept the miniscule risk associated with the card that is control number protected.

Used mine today without a PIN.
Did save $45 on 155 gallons. Can’t complain about that.

Charles, If you, like myself, received one of the early issued cards that had no PIN, it will stay that way unless you email and ask for a PIN to be attached.

I got my card a couple three weeks ago. Just setup the pin yesterday. Today was the first time using it. Know the pin works as I use it to login on the phone app.
Ah, see that’s what happens when I don’t read the entire thread 🙂
Will send an email monday to get the pin setup at the pump. I do lIke some security 🙂

Tom and I both advocated for a means to provide our cards with some level of protection, and in my case Joy added a control number I provided to her, just to make the card more secure.
Nothing could be easier than using the card without having to enter a PIN or control number, but while the risk is very slight you will lose the card and someone will actually figure out how it is used, to me that control number or a PIN is just a worthwhile thing to have.

Oh great, now I need to remember 8 numbers? Where did the good ol days go where there was a notebook with a page for everyone’s “account” down at the corner store?
