    Joel, I would bet serious money the corrosion was external. Even a poorly maintained coolant offers a high degree of corrosion protection, but the external shell from what I have seen has a poor quality exterior finish, and to compound that problem it sits low enough behind the rear wheels that it is likely exposed to the salt, grit and sand kicked up off the highway to accelerate rusting.

    Probably should be painted with Rust Bullet.

    Should have been stainless steel.
