  • Transmission Glitch

Posted by Archived on June 8, 2014 at 8:09 am

Went to move out of the barn and tranny wouldn’t go in gear and the Check Transmission light was on. Ran for a few minutues and the all was well. I checked for codes and nothing, d1 – d5. The only thing I’m getting on the information display under diagnostics is:

    Non Special Syst

    MID (127)

    Not Responding

Any chance the failure to go in gear is Throttle Position Sensor related?

    Ken?

Tom I can’t find anything on MID 127. MID is the component
identifier. For example MID 128 covers most engines and MID 136 137 are
ABS related codes. Maybe the Allison MID is 127, I can’t find anything
that states that.. Eaton Meritor MID is 130. I’ll keep looking. It seems
like I’ve ran across that MID 127 somewhere it maybe the dash. I’ll keep
    looking.

    Tom,

As you know, I don’t know what I don’t know BUT…I have had the same “non shift into gear” symptom.

I have, after a fashion, decided that I get it when I have had one end of the coach or the other higher for some reason.

I have found that leveling the coach and cycling the ignition switch back to off and then on cures it for me.

Like I say, I don’t know what I don’t know but try it for grins.

Had the same thing happen last week after a 300 mile drive but cycled my engine off and back to normal. Probably will happen again. Going in next week for a fluid change at Houston Prevost and will see if they can check or send me to someone that can. Keep us posted on your outcome.

There is a commonality between Glen and Chuck. Both probably have the HT 755 transmission (compared to Tom’s 6 speed).

On the side of that transmission is a 28 pin plug. It is well designed and should prevent corrosion, but just to be on the safe side both you guys should take advantage everytime the coach is up in the air to disconnect that plug and re-insert it a few times. If there is any corrosion that tends to wipe it away and a lot of unexplained events may get wiped away when you do that.

If you find corrosion has bonded the plug and the receptacle so you cannot pull the plug out you may want to have an Allison dealer get involved because that could be the reason for the intermittent issues.

Tom: I get that 127 code on the info center as well. I think it has something to do with something not installed on my bus. I do not think it is transmission related. I will try to look it up tomorrow and see what I can find.

I had repeated problems with my old 5-speed 755 not wanting to go into gear when cold. Finally determined it was very touchy on fluid level and that once the fluid expanded slightly as it warmed, all was well. I gave up checking with the dipstick and just added a quart every time it acted up. No, it never overflowed! Eventually, I switched to synthetic fluid and the level stayed more consistent with less oil use.

Have you checked the oil level on the 6-speed electronically?

I had a similiar issue a few months ago. My transmission would not go in gear. My transmission light was not on either. It turned out to be a slideout pin unlocked. The light on the dash did not indicate that it was unlocked. I got the Prevost manual out and manually locked the pin. It has worked since that time without any issues. Might want to check the slideout pins.

Ya hear that Nancy? Tell Tom to go out and check the slide pins to see if that is why he had the glitch.

That was way harsh Jon, but I liked it!

Hey Sammy, thanks for trying to help, it gave Jon something to bust my chops over and Mark even piled on, is there no love on this site?:)

Keep em coming Sammy. I think peer pressure will eventually get Nancy the slides she wants so bad.

Boys, Tom probably is like me in that one less thing to check is a good thing!
