Temperatures on the 8V92 will typically run 175 to 185, maybe up to 195 pulling a long steep hill in high ambient temperature conditions.

Series 60 engines are designed to run hotter. The two speed DDEC controlled fan has a low speed cut in of 204 degrees, and a high speed fan cut in of 208. In my coaches it is not unusual to see the temperature range from just below 200 to about 210.

I monitor the readings and know if when climbing a long steep hill in high temp conditions if the gauge peaks at around 210 and then starts to drop back down I know the high speed fan has kicked in and the fan and radiator are doing their job. If I do not see the temperature gauge cycling then I get concerned.

Jon, the grade I was talking about was also at about 6000′ elevation, I’m sure that made a difference. As you said, when it hit about 210 it quickly came back below 200. It made that cycle another time before I reached the top, after that, I never saw another 210. The heat guage is something I watch all the time. You can clearly tell the the fan comes in. I was pulling a Jeep Wrangler, don’t think that made too much difference, don’t know the Jeep is back there.

Sounds to me like your coach is cooling just like it should. The good news is even if we fail to note rising temps DDEC will intercede and shut us down before the temps harm the engine.
