“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

I know the thermostats in my Liberty coaches lack the sophistication of the latest thermostats that allow programming for various temperature setting throughout the day, and they can probably be made to tie into blue tooth, Crestron and the garage door opener, but mine seem bullet proof in that the switch on the bottom enables the Websto for that zone and the adjustable setting allows a comfortable temperature setting.

What is it that should be important enough to require new thermostats?

You are correct in the thermostats are bullet proof and they work fine, however they are not as sensitive as the new digital ones and cycling on and off is not consistent so the temp in the coach fluctuates. I just did not know if new better ones were available for the Wabasto. I have no other complaints with the thermostats as they do work and as you say are bullet proof.

I do not know the switching differential so I don’t know if a replacement is going to smooth out the temps.

Digital thermostats can sense a minute change in temps and switch the Webasto on or off, but keep in mind the Webasto itself has a temp differential as it tries to maintain coolant to around 160 degrees so is that the problem or is it the thermostat?

I never thought of that, it could be the Wabasto trying to maintain temp of the coolant. I will take your advice and leave well enough alone. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

I make stuff up. Are you sure you want my advice or that you should believe anything I say?

If you have listened to your Webasto as it is working you can hear the burner cycle on and off. When you activate the Webasto system the burner brings coolant to a specific temperature and then the burner cuts off. The circulating pump continues to circulate coolant through the engine, HW tank or heat exchangers and if heat is called for in the house the blowers at the heat exchangers continue to blow as the coolant temp drops until the burner refires.

The problem in trying to maintain a constant temp is not only associated with the temperature switching differential in the thermostats, but it could be the varying coolant temp or even something like a change in air flow in the coach such as someone just moving around.

We have the same situation when we use the A/Cs because as they cycle we sense the temperature variations.

As this is our first Liberty coach we are just trying to figure out the complex systems of our coach while trying to upgrade the old girl as much as possible. it is a challenge but we are learning slowly. your comments make sense and given the fact you have owned three liberties I do listen to your advice. as always any information is greatly appreciated.

My ’88 Webasto might be different but I replaced mine with digital programmable thermostats years about. I found them at Lowe’s or Home Depot for like $30 or so. Take a look at the wiring behind the existing thermostat for what wiring is there. If it’s just 2 wire then it’s likely a 12V or 24V setup and most home systems use the same basic setup. Now I can work all day and have the furnance raise the temp in the coach from while I am away to 72 at 5PM so it’s nice and toasty when I arrive. It then drops it’s self to sleeping temps at bedtime and it gets all warm and toasty before I have to get out of bed the next morning. I never have to touch a thing.

What brand do you have? We have a Lowes near us and a Home Depot, I will look and see what they have. It could be as simple as years of dust, dirt and corrosion on the thermostats and a good cleaning of the contacts will be all that is needed. Thanks for the information and I will check to see how many wires are connected to them.

I’m amazed the folks who control every aspect of their coaches with their smart phones haven’t been all over this telling us that they not only control their coach temps to do what was described, but that the phone puts a mint on their pillow at bedtime and makes the coffee in the morning.
