    Tom, I read a Donnie Myers post some months back about changing the #2 inverter settings so both went in float mode at the same time and have been pondering making that change on mine. You are suggesting the same general idea which makes sense. I will likely “up” the generator start voltage at the same time. I may email you to discuss both procedures if you do not mind.

    Relative to Tim’s post, Marathon also told me to set both inverters to “auto” mode where logic tells me only to set #1 to auto which is what I have been doing for years.

    Don’t lose sleep over it. You don’t have to be an electric guru to understand them. You know the basic functions and once you have the proper settings you can leave them alone.

    I might be a minority when it comes to powering my bus but I set my invertors 3 years ago in June and have not touched them. I do not put anything less than 50 amp or run my generator. Many others have more knowledge on setting their’s and often do, I am looking for simple.

    Once you get yours set you will be fine.

    If I can get Tom or some other knowledgeable Marathon owner (w/Trace Inverters) to post “all” their inverter settings I think I could manage to figure out how to go thru all the menus items to adjust my settings.

    Tim,

    When I picked my bus up at Marathon the walk through discussion started by me was to check the inverter settings. Not necessary as Marathon has specific settings programed into there buses. Marathon used the buttons marked reset to factory settings and we left it at that. Marathon said internal bus boards are built to Marathon specs and design engineers use..

    That’s what happened to me and no issues since.

    I think that’s the reason we’re suggesting he change his settings, 21v for autostart is 100% discharged.

    Al, You also have the auto start for the gen see on both inverters like I did. But Tom & Bernie are recommending that you only have one inverter set to “auto”.

    BA hasn’t used his AGS ever in his life. If anyone has their’s on when they pull into one of the slumlords garage’s the offender is banished for life.

    I’m very curious who at Marathon is telling people to run both invertors on Auto.

    Can any Marathon owner get their AGS to work with both invertors set to Auto?

    I am interested in this discussion and would like to know the proper settings for both inverters. We just returned from a trip and had our share of electrical issues. The most problematic issue was our inability to get power to “the top” of the bus…we had power from the pedastal to the main breaker, but not from the breaker to the bus.

    In the process of resolving this issue (which occurred twice for no apparent reason, and then “fixed itself” for unknown reasons), I reset the inverters. I have read the Trace manual, and it is overwhelming. If I had the recommended settings, I would attempt to program the inverters to the proper settings.

    Well, two schools of thought both from Marathon. Just different coasts. Leon in OR instructed me to have only one Inverter set to Auto start. Roy in FL said to have them both set to auto but to have the AGS cut in at 24v.

    So, while we were all in Quebec in September, Roy and I set our AGS cut in to 25v and turned off shore power and ran our two AC’and TV and what all to see how long we could go before AGS. Our AGS kicked in at somewhere between 3-4 hours.

    So I have no clue which is accurate!

    Like Tom suggested. 24v and 3 hours.. But who am I to say if this is correct or not!

    This is theoretical but something to consider.

    Most of us plug into 50 amp (actually 100) service but there are times when that shore power is inadequate. If we are running a lot of interior lights, a couple of AC units, cooking, and we have other 120V loads we can trip the breaker. So to prevent this we generally set the inverter charging current to some lower level, such as 10 or 15 amp so as the inverters are charging the batteries to deal with the 12 or 24 volt loads the shore power breaker will not trip.

    But then we do some dry camping and we rely on the generator to recharge the bateries when needed.

    Our auto-start is set at some low value and when that is reached the generator starts. But if we have a big battery bank, and the lights and other loads are drawing power from the batteries the low setting for recharging may not be enough for recharging in three hours. At that point we have to go back in and reset the charging current levels. My point is that if the auto-start is terminated based on time we have to insure a full charge within that time, especially when we consider the settings used for charging current.
